Pastor John broke down in tears while the commotion was ongoing. The police were later called in to bring the situation under control.

 “Why successor? I am still there. Why do you want a successor? I did not say I was a candidate to retire. Leaders were elected not appointed,” he said.

Patience Paul, the schoolgirl allegedly abducted in Sokoto state and converted to Islam, has been rescued and will be reunited with her parents on Saturday,TheCable  reports.

Patience’s parents had reported her missing since August 12, 2015, with unconfirmed reports suggesting she was kidnapped and taken to the palace of the sultan of Sokoto for forceful conversion.

 Aminu Tambuwal, the state governor, ordered investigation into the saga after it became a media item during the week. Patience, who was 14 at the time of her abduction, was found on Friday night at the house of one Malam Ibrahim, who calls himself Sarkin Baki (“king of strangers”).

An insider told TheCable:

“The Sokoto State Human Rights Commission, along with the team set up by the police, questioned suspects and detained three persons in connection with the issue.”

 Some hisbah (Sharia police) personnel had taken Patience to an imam in Runjin Sambo area of Sokoto with a claim that she wanted to convert to Islam.

Okorocha leaves Nigeria hours after EFCC nabbed aides for diverting N2bn

Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, has flown out of Nigeria to an undisclosed country.

Thisday reported on Friday that Okorocha travelled abroad as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeks to unravel how over N2 billion from the bailout fund given to Imo by the federal government for the payment of civil servants salaries was diverted.

A statement issued on Thursday by the anti-graft agency named the suspects as: Obi Paschal Chigozie, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Imo state, Uzoho Casmir, Director of Finance and Iheoma Kenneth, Treasurer.

EFCC added that “their arrest followed an investigation into the alleged diversion of the said money which revealed that, the cashier had made cash withdrawal of N456.532m between September 3, 2015 and October 10, 2015 from the government house account domiciled in Zenith Bank.

Nigerian Students Top At Ghanaian University Graduation

Two Nigerians have won the top prize at the 9th Graduation Congregation of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), a leading technology-focus private university in Ghana. The event held at the Ghanaian capital city over the weekend. In a statement released by the University, Mr. Peter Hunnoho Moses, who graduated with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology was judged the overall best student of the graduation class with a cumulative GPA of 3.99. The overall best student in the Female category went to Ms. Odinaka Abel Favour who graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a cumulative GPA of 3.90.

In his speech to the congregation, which saw the graduation of Bachelor’s degree holders and PhDs, Professor Clement Dzidonu, the President of the University observed that this is a major achievement given that, AIT has the toughest and the highest grading system within the university system in Ghana. ‘To get an A grade in a subject at AIT you must score above 90 and to get a First Class with a cumulative GPA close to the maximum 4.2, means that a student must consistently get A grades across the board’, Professor Dzidonu noted.

Businessman given N1 million bail for ‘defiling 3-year-old’

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday granted bail in the sum of N1 million to a 23-year-old trader, Obinna Obaji, who allegedly defiled a three-year-old girl by fingering.

The Chief Magistrate, Tajudeen Elias, in his ruling, ordered the defendant to produce two sureties in like sum as part of the bail conditions.

Elias said Obaji should deposit N100, 000 into the Chief Registrar’s Account, pending the determination of the case.

Obaji, a trader of No 32, Orisumbare Street, Iyana Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, was arraigned on Feb. 29 on a one-count charge of sexual assault, but he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at his residence on Feb. 21.

Aigbokhan said that the defendant was living in the same compound with the victim’s mother.

Teacher beheads girl over 8,000 unpaid salaries in Ogun State.

A teacher in a private school, Edet Umoren, in Esugbo, Itamerin near Ijebu-Ife, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Thursday, allegedly beheaded a 10-year-old pupil, Precious Adedeji.

Adedeji, who was a pupil of Favour Nursery and Primary School, was the granddaughter of the proprietor, Pastor Joseph Olitoye.

It was gathered that Umoren allegedly killed the pupil because Olitoye owed him N8, 000 – the suspect’s salaries for January and February.

Umoren, also severed off the right hand of the 10-year-old girl after seizing and dragging her into a nearby bush, a day after her birthday.

The assailant, who was also said to be the treasurer of the school proprietor’s church, was alleged to have seized Adedeji when she and her friend, Patricia, were returning to the school from where they had gone to buy biscuit.

Man 'caught trying to rape eight-year-old girl' stripped naked and publicly shamed

A MAN who was allegedly caught trying to rape an eight-year-old girl was stripped naked and paraded around his village in an attempt to publicly shame him.

Footage of the man being forced to walk through the town sees him dragged from the scene and tied up with a rope. 

The baying mob reluctantly hand him over to a police officer after being pulled by a rope for eight blocks. Once at the police car, a policewoman takes the rope off, handcuffs him and bundles him still naked into the police car, whilst people gather round and shout insults at him.

"Next time we will kill you", one man can be heard shouting, whilst a woman says: "Degenerate! Tie him to the back of the car."

TWO Nigerian ladies who were recently rescued from the hands of a suspected human trafficker based in Libya have given gory details of how they were lured and forced into prostitution in the North African country.
The victims, identified as Yusuf Nasfat Omobolanle and Ebuno­luwa Lawal were rescued through the intervention of a human rights group, Alliance of Rights Defenders (ARD).
Saturday Sun learnt that the atten­tion of ARD was drawn to activities of the cartel through petitions writ­ten by families of some of the miss­ing girls and those who escaped and ran back to Nigeria.
In the petition, the concerned re­lations alleged that one Alhaji Muri­tala and his wife, Lateefat (surname withheld) both indigenes of Odeda in Ogun State, had trafficked more than 100 teenagers and young wom­en from Ogun to Libya for prostitu­tion.
Also indicted was Lateefat’s mother, Mrs Ebunoluwa (surname withheld) who was accused of lur­ing the girls with mouth-watering promises of good life abroad on be­half of her daughter and son-in-law.
ARD alerted the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Mrs Ebuno­luwa was arrested while her daugh­ter who was in Nigeria at that time escaped.

Father abducted Igbo girl in Zaria cries out: Says I want my daughter back

IFEOMA, now Aisha, is the daughter of Mr. Ndubuisi Nichodemus. She was living with her parents, in the midst of the Hausa community in Zaria, Kaduna State, until May, 2014. On that fateful evening, Ifeoma had left the house in protest against the authority of her moth­er to question her for returning late to the house on the day.
She simply walked out of her parents’ compound into a neighbour’s house, and since 21 months ago to be precise, the family is yet to set their eyes on her.

Ifeoma, now 16, Saturday Sun learnt, might have been converted to Islam, even as her mother disclosed that she gathered reliably that her daughter had been married off. This was the story, told to our reporter in November last year.
Since then, nothing happened. But by last week Wednesday, apparently fol­lowing the public outcry over the abduc­tion of Bayelsa-born Ese, Mr. Nichode­mus was sighted at the Police Command headquarters, in Kaduna. However, neither the Police nor Mr. Nichodemus, was forthcoming on what transpired last Wednesday.
The only thing he told Saturday Sun when pressed further was that “the situ­ation remains the same. Nothing has changed, as my daughter is not back. The Sharia Court handling the mat­ter keeps adjourning the case and as a result, we are still where we were last year”

Marie Hatch, 97, died after landlord's attempt to evict her from her California home of 66 years 'did her in'

The 97-year-old woman fighting to stay in her California home died Thursday night after her landlord's cruel eviction attempt was "too much for her," according to her roommate of 32 years.  

Marie Hatch passed away in her Burlingame, Calif., home of 66 years after becoming weak and contracting a virus, said her roommate Georgie Rothrock, who was with her when she passed. 

"I think the recent upset about the rental really sort of did her in, and then she contracted a virus, was really short of breath. She had a pounding heart. It was just too much for  her," Rothrock, 85, told the Daily News. 

Hatch received the shocking eviction notice on Feb. 11 from her landlord, David Kantz, which ignored claims that she was given a verbal agreement to lifetime tenancy from her previous three landlords.

In a statement, lawyers who agreed to represent Hatch pro bono, also blamed the death on the “callous eviction,” according to Mercury News.

“There is no doubt that the callous eviction of Marie Hatch has caused her death,” said attorneys Nanci Nishimura and Nancy Fineman of the law firm Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP.

And Cruz’s discriminatory beliefs aren’t limited to the LGBT community, either; the Texas senator’s views leave women in the dust, too. In fact, he has a 100% pro-life voting record, and has voted to defund Planned Parenthood 10 times during his time in the Senate.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has lamented the death of a corps member, Dr. Ogboji Kelechi Aaron, who was reportedly killed, last month, by the Lassa fever, while in active service in Kaduna State.

During the briefing of pressmen at the State Secretariat of the Corps in Abakaliki, the Director-General of the Scheme Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, stated that the victim got infected with the virus after treating a patient with the ailment.

Olawumi, represented by the Director of Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mr. Michael Ahile, extolled the virtues of the deceased during a formal condolence visit to his family.

Residents Claim Police Helped Hausa Thugs in Mile 12 Inter-ethnic Clash

The Mile 12 Perishable Traders Association on Friday appealed to the Lagos State Government to reopen the market to mitigate the financial losses that could accrue from produce wastage.

Mr Femi Odusanya, spokesman for the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that reopening of the market would guarantee continuous food supply to the state.

NAN recalls that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on March 3 ordered a temporary closure of the market following violence within the communities in the area.

The governor said the decision to shut the market and restrict movement on the streets were to aid security agencies to restore the peace in the area.

Odusanya said: “We plead with the government to review its order on the closure of the market to reduce the quantum of produce to be wasted”.

“We have over 20 trucks each filled with sixty baskets of tomatoes worth N5,000 per basket rotting in the trucks in the market because of the delay in offloading them.

Niger Delta Militants Bomb Pipeline In Sophisticated Under Water Attack

A sophisticated attack on a sub-sea pipeline in Nigeria’s Delta might herald a return to the kind of widespread militant violence that crippled the oil industry in Africa’s top producer less than a decade ago.

Attacks on oil facilities have been on the rise in the swamps since President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to shake up a fraud-ridden amnesty program for rebels who stopped blowing up pipelines in 2009 in exchange for cash and generous contracts.

Adding a new dimension, unknown militants – probably using divers – hit a Shell underwater pipeline last month, interrupting oil flows and forcing the company to shut down its 250,000 barrel-a-day Forcados export terminal for weeks.

Nigeria-based diplomats and security experts say the attack showed a level of skill and inside intelligence rarely seen since the 2004-2009 insurgency, which at its height halved Nigeria’s oil output of around 2 millions barrels a day.

“This was an attack that required knowledge of the area and sophisticated equipment,” said a Western security source, asking not to be named. “There were underwater attacks before but none recently. The oil firms are really worried there will be more.”

Militants tend to attack small overland pipelines or flow stations sitting in hard-to-access mosquito-infested creeks.

The underwater attack has cut 15 percent of Nigerian crude output, dealing another blow to Buhari, who is already having to cope with a collapse of oil revenues due to falling prices, a Boko Haram jihadist insurgency in the north and secessionist calls in the southeast.

Female NYSC Member Escapes Being R*ped In National Assembly Restroom

A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) attached to the National Assembly narrowly escaped being raped on Thursday, March 3, 2016.

She told passers-by at the Senate wing of the White House that she narrowly escaped being raped.

She said that a heavily built man accosted her while she went to ease herself at one of restrooms in the upper legislative chamber.

The corps member said she was about to undress herself when she saw a man entering the rest room.

The lady said she sensed that it was unusual for a man to enter the room specifically designed for women.

“As the man approached me, I had no option than to raise the alarm and the man took to his heels,” she said.

PPMC Agency Adopts Measures To End Fuel Scarcity

Mrs Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue, the Managing Director, Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) said measures were being taken to ensure end to fuel scarcity across the country

Nnamdi- Ogbue made this know while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

“Right now, we have about eight vessels coming in, each of which ranges between 30,000 to 40,000 metric tonnes capacity, and these should be more than enough to ensure sufficiency.

” On Wednesday alone, over one thousand trucks were loaded and trucked out by the majors marketers and PPMC, ” she said

According to her, about 400 intervention trucks are being used to service marketers.

This, she said, was to ensure fuel supply in their filling stations, especially in Abuja and Lagos, where they consume about 60 per cent of daily national consumption figures.

Nnamdi-ogbue further noted that there were people trucking out fuel from Port Harcourt, Warri, Ogarra, Calabar as alternative sources for Lagos.

She assured that all efforts were being made to ensure that by weekend, all these problems of scarcity would be a thing of the past.

Igbo Leaders to Approach President Buhari With a List of Demands

The Pan Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has resolved to visit President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with a charter of demands, Vanguard reports.
The resolution was adopted after a meeting of some members at the private residence of one of their leaders in Enugu on Thursday.

Among the issues they resolved to present to Buhari for urgent attention included the reconstruction of the Enugu- Umuahia- Port Harcourt Road, the Enugu- Onitsha express road, appointment of more Special and Senior Special Assistants or Assistants as Igbo are not represented in his government, as well as the completion of the Second Niger Bridge to end the ongoing agitation for Biafra Republic.

Apart from these, they also resolved to ask the President to set up the Eastern Nigeria Development Commission, ENDC, to handle the issue of unemployment of Igbo youths which they said was responsible for the continued agitation for the Biafran Republic by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as reportedly requested by Governor Rochas Okorocha during the reconciliation meeting between the two former factions of Ohanaeze led by Chief Enwo Igariwey and Ralph Obioha respectively.

Dangote Announces Reduction in Price of 3X Cement

Nigeria’s largest cement producer, Dangote Cement Plc in an update on strategy has announced a reduction in the price of its market-leading brand of cement.

In a bid to stimulate building work across Nigeria, Dangote Cement says it’s reducing the price of its market-leading 3X brand of cement in Nigeria by ₦300 per 50kg bag, or ₦6,000 per tonne.

The new price will become effective immediately. The company is also undertaking a number of marketing initiatives designed to stimulate consumption of cement in Nigeria and to increase exports.

According to Dangote Chief Executive, Onne van der Weijde, “our cost-saving initiatives in Nigeria have enabled us to cut the price of cement to a level that is good for consumers yet still allows us to achieve strong returns that are sustainable in the longer term.

“We hope that reducing the cost of cement will help to stimulate building work across Nigeria at a time when the economy is in need of a boost.

Female graduate jailed 7 years for manufacturing fake drugs

A 35-year-old woman, Clara Onah, is to spend the next seven years in the Kirikiri Maximum Prison for allegedly manufacturing and selling fake drugs in Lagos State.

The sentence was handed down on Onah, a graduate of Microbiology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a postgraduate student of Mass Communication, of the same institution, by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, for manufacturing and selling a fake brand of 200mg of Amazon Amagyl Metronidazole tablets.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Shamaki Umar, had told the court that after her arrest, Onah deceived officials of the National Agency for Foods, Drugs Adminstration and Control (NAFDAC), by telling it that the fake drugs were manufactured in Ogun State but after taking the NAFDAC officials on a fruitless journey in search of the alleged manufacturing company, she opened up that she was the sole manufacturer of the fake drugs.

When the officials traced her to her residence at No 12, Mosalashi Street in Alagbado area of the state, they discovered items she used in manufacturing the drugs, such as weighing scales and labels.

Women Complain Of ‘Husband Scarcity’

This may not be the best time for me to write on this because of misinterpretations, but I can no longer resist the push. ‘Husband Scarcity’ has become one of the challenges faced by many young girls today. If you go to prayer houses, majority of the intentions are prayer for a life partner. And this calls for concern.

Casting our minds back to the time of our mothers and grandmothers, was there really much of a ‘Husband Scarcity’ problem? Or, maybe there were more men than women then, or there were adequate corresponding numbers of both genders. I don’t think so. Maybe then, the women had values and were prepared to build a home and not park into a built home. Then, once a young man comes of age and can at least feed himself and his wife, he goes out in search of a wife and the woman really appreciates him and helps him to build a future.

What am I really trying to say? We created what we now see as ‘Husband Scarcity’ for ourselves. Today, the reverse is the case. Ask an average girl to define her dream husband; you get things like “he has to be tall, handsome, fair, and rich, own a house at least, and be presentable,” and then she adds “God fearing” in order not to sound so worldly. Then, check the number of girls around you and the number of men that meet that standard, and you will see the problem.

Why I gave judge N750,000-SAN accused of bribery

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged  that another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr Joseph Nwobike, paid N750,000 into the account of Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court

An EFCC operative, Moses Awolusi, said there were new revelations about judges being allegedly induced through “a network of senior lawyers”.He said

“Investigation has also shown that as part of this chain of fraud, Mr. Joseph Nwobike (SAN) also transferred the sum of N300,000 to Hon. Justice H.A Nganjiwa.

“Investigations further revealed that Hon Justice M.N Yunusa as part of this scheme of fraud also received the sum of N750,000 from Mr. Joseph Nwobike SAN and Co,” the EFCC investigator said.

But Nwobike, in a statement to the anti-graft agency, which was also attached to the affidavit, explained that the money was not meant to bribe the judge.

He said it was the judge who asked him for financial assistance in respect of his mother who was undergoing dialysis due to failing kidney.

A known 35-year-old prostitute was found dead in the early hours of Tuesday in a brothel in Kubwa, Abuja.

According to City News, the deceased, simply identified as Ome Enyi, a native of Cross River State, lived at the brothel for more than a year. Her companion, a yet to be identified man, lodged in the brothel the previous night and was suspected to have slept in the same room with the deceased.A source alleged that the man checked out of the brothel on that fateful day before the corpse of the prostitute was discovered lying unclad on the floor inside the room.

“The corpse was discovered by one of the cleaners who had gone to tidy up the room that morning,” the source said.

The source added that the corpse was later moved from the brothel to the Kubwa General Hospital by the police, following a report to them by the brothel manager.

The remains of the prostitute have been deposited at the hospital morgue after being certified dead by a doctor.

A couple have just missed out on the Guinness World Record for world's smallest married couple. 
Pramod Kumar, 47, finally found love with Poonam Devi, 33, after a 22-year search and they got married in a traditional Indian ceremony in  India last week. 
He is 2'7" and she is 3'4" and their combined height is just 0.4 inches taller than the current recordholders,Daily Mirror reports
That honour goes to Douglas Maistre Breger da Silva and his wife Claudia Pereira Rocha, who measure a combined 71 inches.
