How Ivory Coast hotel shooters gunned down 5 year old boy despite pleading for his life

Suspected al Qaeda terrorists shot dead a five-year-old boy who fell to his knees and prayed for his life during a terror attack on a tourist resort in Ivory Coast, eyewitnesses have said.

At least four men armed with AK47s and hand grenades killed 16 people, including four Europeans, in the historic town of Grand Bassam before they were gunned down in a shootout with government troops.

One survivor who saw the attack unfold said: 
'They killed a child despite him kneeling down and begging. They shot a woman in the chest. They've killed innocent people.'
Another witness, Marcel Guy, said a man with a long beard spoke to two children in Arabic and spared the life of the one who was able to recite an Islamic prayer.
'The Christian boy was shot and killed right in front of my eyes,
Of the 16 people who were gunned down in the resort popular with Westerners, 14 were civilians and two were special forces soldiers, Ivory Coast's President Alassane Ouattara said today.

He said a total of six attackers were later killed by soldiers, adding: 'I am very proud of our security forces who reacted so fast... The toll could've been much heavier.'

The heavily armed, balaclava clad shooters yelled 'Allah Akbar' before they opened fired on guests at the L'Etoile du Sud [Southern Star] hotel which was full of expats at the time.

7-year-old's ability to recite the Bible is 'gift from God'

 

A 7-year-old girl has been recognised for her ability to recite Bible verses from memory on demand.

Sydney Hopson from Conway, Arkansas, has an exceptional talent which enables her to memorise large portions of the holy book.

Her unusual talent was first discovered by her grandmother who began testing her Bible knowledge on the way to school when she was aged 5. Rene Henderson asked Sydney to recite one of the 26 verses that she had been tasked with memorising. At first, Sydney didn't answer so her grandmother questioned her again. To her surprise, Sydney had memorised each of the 26 verses and demonstrated this when her grandmother asked her to prove it.

The Rev. Houston White, the pastor of the church that Sydney attends with her family, told Arkansas Online: "She's a unique child, and we're blessed to have her...We understand that it's a gift from God."

BIAFRA: Police Secretly Killed 20 Of Our Members —MASSOB

JAMB Cut Off Mark For 2016/2017 Admission Finally Announced

According to information which was released by the JAMB registrar, the board came to conclusion on this cut off mark on the 14th of July, and this is the official cut off marks for admission into Varsities.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has announced that every Universities in Nigeria will be using 180 as their cut off mark for admission.

While for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian Polytechnics and Colleges of education official cut off marks is 150, this is valid for the 2016/17 academic session.

Man accused of torturing a puppy to death behind bars again

A young man who allegedly tortured and beat a four-month-old puppy to death in Salt Lake City, Utah, is behind bars once again for violating the terms of his release, reported Friday's Good 4 Utah News. The accused man, 20-year-old Mikah M. Johnson, was supposed to stay away from children and animals when he was released to Pretrial Services in December.

A witness familiar with the case against Johnson reported him to the authorities after seeing him at Green River High School in Wyoming on multiple occasions. After another witness corroborated the claim, Johnson was arrested and held on $150,000 cash only bail bond.

Johnson is facing multiple felony charges for his alleged torture and killing of "Moose," a border collie mix, between July and August of 2015. The accusations against Johnson are deeply disturbing. On one occasion, neighbors reported hearing the puppy being beaten for approximately 45 minutes. On another occasion, after Moose was on a walk with Johnson, he had was said to have difficulty standing or using his rear legs - that night, the pup repeatedly sneezed blood.

Putin orders partial Russian troop pullout from Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his defence minister to begin pulling out "the main part" of Russian troops in Syria.

The announcement came just hours after peace talks between the Syrian government and the opposition got under way in the Swiss city of Geneva on Monday.

"The task presented to the defence ministry and the armed forces has been completely fulfilled," Putin told Sergei Shoigu, according to the state news agency TASS.

"Thus I order the defence minister to begin withdrawing the main part of our troops from the Syrian Arab Republic."

Putin said he hoped the withdrawal of Russian troops from Tuesday will be a stimulus for a political resolution of the conflict.

   His friend,Chukwudi Orji explained to Daily Trust on Sunday that it was when he got home at about 11p.m, that he learnt that his friend,  Anigbo was the victim of the violence. He said

Revoke your anti-preaching bill or die- Pastor tells El Rufai

An Edo state based pastor and the Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM), Apostle Johnson Suleiman, called on the governor to revoke the bill now or die.

According to Suleiman, El Rufai has no right to regulate the activities of religious leaders when he has not regulated the activities of traditionalist in the state. He said before he, El Rufai, became governor, they were men of God and that they will still remain men of God when he leaves office.

"I want to warn the governor of Kaduna state. Many times I have read in the papers how he abused Jesus and Christians came after him. He said that they are joking that Nothing can happen. I am talking to you, Kaduna Governor. Listen, I am not against sanitizing a state but you say people should get licence for preaching; it is not applicable in Nigeria. Even a herbalist does not get a license for practicing herbalism. When you say license for preaching, then you are standing against the constitution that says freedom of worship. I have no problem, we can test powers now. There are certain laws that cannot happen in this country. Not when Nigeria is under God. If need be, over this matter, heaven will intervene. I am saying this specifically to the executive governor of Kaduna, revoke this law or die!"he said

Ocholi's driver: not licenced to drive- FRSC insists fake licence is no licence.

Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and Strategy, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has insisted that late James Ocholi’s driver, Taiwo James Elegbede had no driver’s license record with the commission.

Kazeem stated this Abuja on Sunday, March 13 in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. According to him, the news making round in the social media that Elegbede, driver of the ill-fated vehicle that claimed the lives of Ocholi and his family members has a driver’s license is not true.

"Elegbede is not captured in our driver’s licensing data, so the license he claimed to have expired must be a fake one. Our license procedure includes physical presence and biometric capturing of applicants which is permanently stored in our data bank, for the purpose of verification. We always tell members of the public to visit our licensing centres spread across the country and desist from patronizing touts while applying for their driver’s license. Elegbede can not be called a competent driver if he does not have a genuine driver’s license, which he can only acquire showing mastery of basic driving principles.

Reacting to the claim that the vehicle(Lexus 570 SUV) the driver was driving was one given to Ocholi from the office of the Head of Service and that he wasn't allowed to examine the car, Kazeem said:

"A good driver must perform a routine check on his vehicles before driving out, it is not an excuse to say because the vehicle was provided by another office and he should ignored a check on it. Infact, the maintenance department could not claim in-culpability as a result of receiving the vehicle from another agency or department, the more reason, why proper check should be carried out as the vehicle is changing hands."

UK returnee dies in an accident shortly after arrival in Lagos(Photos)

A United Kingdom returnee met his untimely death yesterday in an early morning auto crash in Lagos.The crash also left others severely injured. According to Sunday Telegraph the deceased, who had just returned on Saturday morning, chose to drive himself when he met his untimely death on the popular Otedola Bridge on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. 

It was gathered the accident, which occurred at about 7:15am, involved a blue coloured Hilux truck with registration number FST 356 XS and a truck with registration FKJ 519 CF.

It was learnt that the victim’s brother drove to the airport to pick him up, but while coming back, he chose to drive while the brother survived with injuries in the accident, which occurred on the out bound side of the expressway.
It was also learnt that the cause of the accident was due to over speeding on the part of the Hilux driver, who lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the truck.

An official of the Lagos State University, Samuel Ambe, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his lover, Mata Jidonu.

Thirty-two-year-old Mata was married to a lawyer, Sunday Jidonu, for whom she had three children.

It was learnt that the suspect worked at the Department of Works and Physical Planning of the university.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Mata, who lived in the Agric area of Ikogazebba, Badagry, had left home around 3pm on February 15, saying she was going to buy foodstuffs in the market, but reportedly headed for the lover’s house, a few kilometres away.

Robbers chops off Edo septuagenarian’s wrists(Photo)

Robbers have chopped off the wrists of a septuagenarian, Pa Jacob Ikilo,  a security guard at a filling station at Eyaen village, on the Benin-Auchi Road, the Nation reports.
Pa Jacob is receiving treatment at the Male Orthopaedic Ward of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where doctors are battling to save his right wrist.

The severed right wrist, being kept alive by a tiny blood vessel, requires N380,000 to be fixed back.
The incident was said to have occurred on Monday, February 29, at 3 am, when Pa Jacob was on night duty.

Pa Jacob said the robbers used machete to chop off his wrist when he went to check an unusual noise at the plant house.
He said he heard people running towards him. As he attempted to run, the robbers attacked him.

“When I was coming from the generator house, they surrounded me. They just cut off this my hand (left hand). As I shout, they said shut up and cut the other hand. I fell down and started asking them to leave me, that I was dying.”

Ritualist plucks eyes of a 4-year-old boy

On January 25, 2016 the predicament of four year old Usman Sadiq shocked the nation when he was found with his eyes gouged out .Now, he is completely blind and cannot play with other children unaided.He has however placed a curse on those who committed the dastardly act.

According to Khadija Usman, Sadiq’s elder sister, Sadiq’s ordeal started with his craving to eat sweets before going for his Koranic classes.

Before she could proceed, Sadiq volunteered to narrate his story to Punch the best way he could:

  “One day, grandma gave me N10 to go and buy sweets. I went, I saw two men on a motorbike. They were following me and one of them asked me whether there was a road in front and I said no. Later, they promised taking me to where they would get better sweets for me.

“Then, they grabbed me and took me away to where I was given injections several times and they removed my eyes,” Sadiq said in fluent Hausa language.

“I’m told there is a man in Nigeria called Joshua and he is saying that Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and Peter Mutharika will die before April 1,”“Let me tell you, Joshua… you will fail. What you did in 2012 ( Joshua reportedly predicted the death of a president of an unnamed southern African country. Mutharika’s brother, Bingu, who was president at the time, died within the predicted time frame) will not happen again this year,”

I never said Nigeria’s economy was beyond Buhari's control – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed has denied saying that ,Nigeria’s economy was beyond the control of the president. 

 

Lai in a statement by Segun Adeyemi his Speacial Assistant said 

 On Saturday morning, I appeared on a Radio show here in Abuja at which I spoke extensively on the issues affecting our country, especially the economy To my surprise, my views were twisted and I was reported to have said that the economy of our country is beyond the control of the President. 

This is a gross misrepresentation of what I said. I could not have said our economy is out of the control of our President or the administration he heads. As a matter of fact, this Administration has decided to turn the economic disaster‎ that we inherited to a blessing by diversifying our economy. I don’t know the reason behind the gross distortion of my comments on the radio today, but whatever the motive is, Nigerians should disregard such distortion and continue to support our President and his Administration to take our country out of the woods."

The perennial fuel scarcity with its attendant pains and misery is here again.
This phenomenon has become an intermittent plague that has bedevilled our national life for decades now.
For most part of the life of the last administration it was contained to some extent by government pandering to the often repeated threats and blackmail of the league of importers or the members of the Tanker drivers association.

Government did this at very great and sometimes unjustifiable costs. The present prevailing economic conditions however precludes government from delving into such luxury.

This government, unlike its predecessor, is luckier because it has removed the contentious fuel subsidy without rancour or any major societal upheavals. What it must now do is take the next bold step and carry the deregulation of the downstream to its logical conclusion.

Fuel crisis to end in 2 days – Kachikwu assures

Kachikwu gave the assurance yesterday during a tour of petrol stations in Abuja.He stated that the NNPC deploys 300 truckloads of fuel to Abuja on a daily basis.

He said, “We have enough coming in. Obviously the two days of strike hit us very badly but we are flooding in, getting an average of 300 trucks a day into Abuja; it’s going to take a bit of while for the queues to finish but we are hoping that between the next one-two days we should have the queues all disappear because we are continuing to pump in, while a lot of the stations are open 24 hours a day.

 “I apologise to Nigerians for all the pains; nobody wants to see people spend two hours on the fuel queue.”

Noting that President Muhammadu Buhari is bothered about the current situation of fuel scarcity being experienced across the country, the Minister said, “talks had begun with the CBN to help major oil marketers in Nigeria access foreign exchange to import petrol into the country.”

It was also the first time Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the United States since being elected. “When I was first elected to this office, Malia was just 10 and Sasha was 7. And they grow up too fast,” the president said during his opening remarks at the event on Thursday night. “Now Malia is going off to college. … And I’m starting to choke up.”

EFCC probe: Ex-ministers to meet Jonathan today

Some former ministers that served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration will meet the ex-president today (Sunday), SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.

Barring last minute changes, it was learnt that ongoing investigations of the former President’s aides and calls for his own probe would form part of the discussion at the meeting.

It was gathered that many of the former ministers were not only disturbed, but also jittery by the concentration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war on those who served under Jonathan.

Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, in a report on Friday had said Buhari should authorise the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe and prosecute Jonathan.

Ndume had said, “Nobody is supposed to be above the law. If Jonathan is a culprit, he should face the law. If there is evidence that the former President should face the law, then, he should. After all, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Also in his response to an enquiry from Saturday PUNCH on Friday, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had said, “The President does not tele-guide the EFCC in any way.”

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had also said Buhari did not sign any pact with Jonathan or any past President to exempt him (Jonathan) from probe.

According to Shehu, Buhari, being an open person, would never go into a secret pact with anybody, especially on his administration’s ongoing anti-graft war.

Caitlyn Jenner Would Vote For Donald Trump Over Hillary Clinton

Caitlyn Jenner has made it crystal clear that Hillary Clinton won't be getting her vote.

In the next I Am Cait episode, Jenner shared her thoughts on the current presidential front-runners. 

After friend Chandi Moore asks her about Donald Trump, Jenner admits she’s “not a big fan” but is quick to clarify that, “It doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be good for women’s issues. I think he would be very good for women’s issues.”

Pal Kate Bornstein then directly asks Jenner, “Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?”

“I would never, ever, ever vote for Hillary. … If Hillary becomes president, the country is over,” Jenner responds. She goes on to call Clinton “a lousy senator,” “a fucking liar,” and “a political hack,” responsible for troubles in the Middle East.

Jenner’s friends chime in to defend Clinton, with Candis Cayne calling her “an amazing woman."

But Jenner doesn't appear to be listening.
