Senegalese troops have entered Gambia to ensure Adama Barrow, assumes power as the country’s new president.
This followed his swearing in at the Gambia’s embassy in Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
Senegalese army spokesman, Col. Abdou Ndiaye, was quoted by news agencies as saying the country’s troops entered Gambia on Thursday afternoon.
This is just as the Nigerian Air Force spokesman, Ayodele Famuyiwa, said Nigerian troops had surrounded the country and could strike if situations demanded.
“Armed reconnaissance air force are over Gambia. They have the capacity to strike,” AFP quoted Famuyiwa as saying.
West African military forces have made it clear they are ready to enforce a transfer of power in the country, a popular beach destination among European holidaymakers.

Trump’s inauguration: 900,000 flood Washington today

Washington turned into a virtual fortress ahead of Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration today as the United States capital brace for more than a quarter-million protesters expected during the Republican’s swearing-in.
Police have forecast that some 900,000 people, both supporters and opponents, will flood Washington for the inauguration ceremony, which includes the swearing-in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and a parade to the White House along streets thronged with spectators. Today’s crowds are expected to be less than the 2 million who attended Obama’s first inauguration in 2009, and in line with the million who were at his second, four years ago.
Many of those attending will be protesters irate about the New York real estate developer’s demeaning comments about women, immigrants and Muslims, a vow to repeal the sweeping healthcare reform law known as Obamacare and plans to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
In a sign of the Trump-related angst gripping Washington, the dean of the Washington National Cathedral said this week its choir would sing “God Bless America” at the inauguration despite misgivings by some members.
“Let me be clear: We are not singing for the President. We are singing for God because that is what church choirs do,” the Reverend Randolph Marshall Hollerith said in a letter. Trump will attend an interfaith prayer service at the cathedral on Saturday, closing out the inaugural ceremonies.

Mom’s blood pressure predicts baby’s sex before conception —Scientists

Some Canadian scientists have said that it is possible to determine the sex of a baby months before it is even conceived.
They say that a woman’s blood pressure at around 26 weeks before conception could tell if she will have a boy or a girl.
“Higher systolic blood pressure signals she will deliver a boy while lower suggests a girl,” says endocrinologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Dr. Ravi Retnakaran.
In a study published in the American Journal of Hypertension, the researchers reached the conclusion as they tried to determine what is responsible for the ratio between girls and boys in a population.
In the new study, the mean systolic blood pressure reading for women who had boys was 106 mm Hg, compared to 103 mm Hg for those who had girls, in the months leading up to conception.

“If you are a celebrity, women will always come to you. Most of the time, their intention is to seduce you. Well, in 2016, some of them tried to seduce me and to make me do certain things that I had sworn never to do when I got married. But, I thank God that I was able to resist them. It was not by my power; God gave me the grace to resist them,” he said.
The actor almost swore that he had never had an extra-marital affair since he got married. “Why should I? My wife is young and very pretty. Besides, it is not in my character to be chasing women around,” he said.

Lady Burns Down Her Boyfriend's House After Breakup. Photos

An aggrieved lady allegedly burnt down a four bedroom apart after her estranged boyfriend broke off the relationship. According to the person who shared this, the lady is still pleading and expecting to makeup with her "lover" despite making an attempt on his life..

Read below what was shared by Victor Ibeh on Facebook

This was how my friend ended his 2016. You meet a woman, you start dating, you offer her shelter, fed her, clothed her and other things. In the process of that relationship, it occurs to you that she has character flaws that she isn't willing to work on and she feels entitled that you must date her the way she is.

You break off the relationship and she becomes murderous. Makes an attempt on your life. When she didn't succeed, she decides that arson is the way out. But for the goodness of neighbors a four bedroom apartment would have be burnt down. Few weeks after, she is back pleading and expecting a makeup. How possible can that be?

Who walks back into the lion's den after an escape? Is this the same person that you would have ended up with in marriage? Why does this sound familiar? I have been there before. I have had an experience close to this. When I tell you that evil is not gender specific, please believe me. We have seen a lot. It's a good thing that my friend survived this.

Why couples sleep in separate rooms

Despite the unified front that many couples present to the outside world, a trip to the family home may reveal that they actually sleep in separate rooms; and where they share a room, one may opt to sleep on the floor or couch, while the other occupies what otherwise is supposed to be the marital bed.
In psychology, this is known as “night divorce;” and while many couples say it has not affected their marriage, some people believe that marriages may be threatened by the time couples go their separate ways at that time of the day when most couples wind down in each other’s arms.
Researchers at the Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, reveal that as many as 40 per cent of couples will sleep in different beds at some point in their marriages.

Police nab man who slaughtered 39 persons on New Year’s Eve

A 34-year-old Uzbek man suspected of slaughtering 39 people at an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s Eve confessed to the massacre on Tuesday, hours after his capture in a Police raid.
Authorities detained Abdulgadir Masharipov, who spent 17 days on the run after the attack claimed by Islamic State jihadists, along with three women and an Iraqi man during a massive Police operation in Istanbul.
“The terrorist confessed his crime,” Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin told reporters, saying the suspect’s fingerprints matched those of the attacker and confirming he is an Uzbek national.
“He was trained in Afghanistan and can speak four languages. He’s a well-trained terrorist,” added the governor, saying Masharipov is believed to have first entered Turkey in January 2016.
Police also confiscated $197,000 (185,000 euros), two firearms and clips during the raid on an apartment, he added.
The arrest lessened the anxiety of Istanbul residents, already on edge after a string of attacks, who had feared for more than a fortnight that a trained killer was on the loose in the city.
Local media published a picture of the detained man with blood on his face and T-shirt, his neck gripped by a policeman.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the arrest and congratulated the security forces.
