St Augustine’s College beat off competition from 30 other second cycle institutions to win the Central Super Zonal Athletics Championship for this year.
By this feat Augusco has improved the all time Super Zonal Championship record to 11 titles. The College’s dominance in the Central Region dates back to the 70s. Between 1977 and 1989, AUGUSCO won the Central Regional Athletic Competition for twelve consecutive years – record which stands to date. Mfatsipim School follows closely with 10 titles on the overall log sheet with Adisadel College in Third place with four titles while Apam Secondary School have won 2 so far.

St Augustine’s College grossed a total of 107 points to beat arch rivals Mfantsipim School who finished on the log sheet with 97 points at the Regional Athletics Stadium within Adisadel College. Swedru School of Business finished third with 75 points 10 more than Adisadel College who finished in fourth place.
In the ladies event, it was Aggrey Memorial Senior High School who topped after a spirited performance from their star athlete Josephine Avemega inspired the total points build up of 90.5. Avemega swept the 100 meters and 200 meters events and finished third in the long jump and 4 x 400 meters relay. This impressive performance earned her the best female athlete’s award.
Joseph Ahinakwa of Ghana National College earned the Best Male Athlete’s accolade after topping in the discus event and finishing runner up in triple jump.
This championship title is the second major title this year for St Augustine’s College who won the Sprite Ball National Basketball Championship after beating Mfantsipim School 37-22 at the El Wak Stadium in January this year.
