Tragedy! Family of 7 burnt to death

Tragedy struck on Thursday when seven members of the same family got burnt in a midnight inferno at Anyamkor near Young Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State.

Saturday Sun gathered that the fire, which ravaged four flats of two bedrooms each, started at Mr. Lawani Oye’s flat around 11.40pm and burnt to death the husband, wife and their five children. Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that as soon as the fire started from Oye’s flat, his wife popularly known as Mama Tunde was said to have raised the alarm, which prompted other neighbours to rush out of their flats.

“We were jolted out of sleep with the shout from the neighbour’s flat as Mama Tunde was shouting fire! fire!! fire!!!. It was her shout that woke us up and we all rushed out of our flats without evacuating anything.

” The victims’ neighbour who did not want her name in print expressed grief that the same woman who raised the alarm could not be saved as she and her family were burnt beyond recognition. The eyewitness who could not ascertain the cause of the inferno, said that the only clue was that the generator was running in the night and by the time they went round after the fire they saw a lantern near the generating set.

It was gathered that the charred bodies of the deceased were left at the premises of the General Hospital, Gboko, at the time of filing this report because the workers were on strike. When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Matthew Oku said that the command was yet to be briefed on the incident

Timaya believes he is still too young to get married

Timaya may be 37-year-old with a babymama and a daughter, yet, he believes he is still too young to get married .He told Saturday Beats

“I am not yet ready to get married and anyone who is looking for that is only being deceived because I am too young to get married. Marriage is not all about money and nobody knows what I have in the bank because they are not my accountant. Musicians lie a lot, so don’t believe most of what they tell you. They are only trying to ‘package’ themselves. I am not prepared for marriage because I am not yet ready to sacrifice for any woman, I am sorry. My daughter is my life and I love her so much but marriage is not on my mind. I don’t want a situation whereby I will tell a woman I want to travel somewhere and she would be complaining.

” Talking about his sudden love for vulgar lyrics, Timaya said “I sing vulgar songs because that is what pays. It has made me richer and I am not doing it because people need to hear something good. People that complain about the vulgar song actually love it. They complained about the song but in six months, it has had 13 million views. I know I say vulgar words but I advise that it should be meaningful sometimes,”

Mr Etcetra says "I feel sorry for GEJ"

From Mr. Etcetera...
I think I am the most criticised President in the whole world, but I want to tell this audience that before I leave, I will be the most praised President,” said President Goodluck Jonathan at the opening of the 52nd Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Hey guys, I guess you know that pointing fingers is not my style, hahaha, just as I know that it will be difficult to find a single Nigerian who hasn’t pointed fingers at President Goodluck Jonathan since he became President. But really, can so many fingers be pointed at a single individual all at the same time? Some people have gone to the extent of saying that since Jonathan took office, everything has gone to hell in a handbasket. Others have held him responsible for everything that has gone wrong in the country, from the tear in their pants to the economy.
Trust me: Nigerians are beginning to agree that when it comes to assigning blame, look to Jonathan first. There are some hardliners who don’t care if Jonathan wasn’t President during the civil war. He must have been thinking about it, and that’s good enough reason for them. They even say that if he hadn’t been sticking his nose into government, the civil war wouldn’t have happened. Funny, Nigerians have found the perfect target for dealing with their bad days. Late to work? Blame Jonathan! Did the soup in the fridge melt when you weren’t looking? It’s Goodluck Jonathan.

Can’t find your smelling socks? Jonathan!
Your baby pees on the chair, again? Jonathan.
The possibilities are endless! Hey, are we not just being unfair to Goodluck Jonathan?
We blame him for all and everything. Even for things that are not his fault. Let me ask you something sir or madam, if Jonathan is to blame for everything wrong in Nigeria today, what becomes of the previous presidents under whose regimes most of these problems started?

On Tuesday evening on my way back from NTA, I stopped at the Bar Beach to buy suya. I was a little bit early because I met the aboki lighting his charcoal. As I waited, I saw two weird looking rastas looking like archangels Michael and Gabriel in their white Cele garments walk down to just about five yards from the water, raised their holy robes in unison like atilogwu dancers trying to master a new dance routine and bent down and began to defecate.
Couples of minutes later, I heard them walking back complaining of how dirty and smelly the beach had become from what it used to be. As they passed by me, the taller one said “omo naija, presido no dey try at all. See as this place don yamayama finish, dem no dey see as those oyinbo beach be for inside film wey we dey watch?”
At that point, I couldn’t hold back my anger. I just had to say something: “Shebi na una just shit finish for that place so? And una get mouth dey blame the president. Una see him shit for there?” We are having a distant relationship with the truth in this country. We have developed that rare ability to be hypocritical and not so much as give a damn whether we are equally guilty of the things we are blaming on others.

In truth, Goodluck Jonathan should roll up his sleeves, spit on his palms and get to work on a lot of things. We keep saying that corruption escalated under his regime but why do we keep failing to associate it with the fact that these corrupt individuals are Nigerians?
I listened to some custom officers saying that If it wasn’t for Goodluck Jonathan’s backward policies, everything at the Nigerian borders would be perfect. Yes, let us keep dumping everything on Goodluck Jonathan. Even our own responsibilities as citizens. He’s the reason our custom and police officers are more interested in collecting bribes than fighting crime and checking for contraband goods coming into the country.
It is also Jonathan’s fault that the security operatives at the Lagos airport have all turned beggars. Should the president also take the rap for the Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria not being able to see that the nation is littered with fake products? Maybe Goodluck Jonathan should be with him daily and point him towards fake products and manufacturers.

The fight to save this country does not begin or stop at Janathan’s table. It must be an all Nigerian battle. Let the pastors stop praying for corrupt politicians and tell them to their faces to stop stealing public funds. If all drivers have their complete vehicle papers and obey traffic laws, there will be no need to give out money to the police and we will be on our way to a better society. Ask yourself where your governor got the billions he spends on frivolities? People in the rural areas of Akwa Ibom state are living in thatched houses and we are building another stadium?
Have you tried asking what the Abia State Government did with the state’s allocation for eight years?
Do you think President Jonathan will be allowed a minute of sleep if he failed to remit monies due to the states? So why then do we pour all the blames on him?

Your governor owns empty estates in Dubai and factories in South Africa when people of their states are homeless and jobless, is that Jonathan’s fault too? Where did we get the preposterous notion that President Jonathan took office and people started having trouble finding jobs? Did we have a zero unemployment rate in the country before President Jonathan?

Millions of Nigerians are working their asses out and dying as contract staffs and casual workers, where is the NLC? Is it not aware of the appalling working conditions Nigerian workers are subjected to by multinationals? Of course, it is all Jonathan’s fault. Last time I checked, Jonathan was a president or a magician. Should he be doing the job of the NLC too, supervising every sector of the country at the same time? Let us be truthful to ourselves, since when have we had good roads in this country? Were there roads in the country that Jonathan destroyed? Have we had electricity in the country before President Jonathan? We say Boko Haram started as a result of poverty and lack of education in the North, were there schools in the North that Jonathan destroyed? Trust me, the architects of Boko Haram know what they’re talking about when they say it is all Jonathan’s fault.

For everyone out there, below are a list of things Goodluck Jonathan is yet to be blamed for, so go ahead and make your pick and let the blame game continue:
Cancer, AIDS, racism, air pollution, sin, child porn, human meat at Jankara market, home video, obesity, Drake sleeping with everyone’s chic, Kim Kardashian’s nude picture, tribalism and every other kind of ism, Arsenal’s trophyless seasons, Facebook, Twitter and Wizkid’s last album.

Nigeria makes further efforts to defend currency

Nigeria’s central bank has brought in further measures to support its currency, the naira. Buyers of foreign currency must use that money within 48 hours or be forced to sell it back at the rate set by the central bank.

The naira hit record lows this week of more than 187 against the dollar. The prolonged fall in the oil price is causing serious problems for Nigeria, which is heavily dependent on the commodity. Nigeria, which is Africa’s largest oil producer, receives 70% of government revenue and 90% of all foreign exchange earnings from oil.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) warned it would impose sanctions on anyone who did not follow its new rules. Speculators are betting on further falls in the naira by buying foreign currency in the hope that they will be able to buy more when they reconvert their money back.

In November, the CBN devalued the naira to 168 against the dollar, but its action has not stopped it falling further. Earlier this week, Nigeria was forced to revise its budget because of the dramatic fall in the price of oil. Its finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said its economy will now grow at 5.5% this year, rather than 6.4%. In a separate development, Nigerian oil workers agreed to call off a strike that started on Monday.

A spokesman for one of the unions involved, Pengassan, said the government had given assurances that it would address union concerns over refinery maintenance. This includes a renewed push to get a long-delayed bill passed in parliament, aimed at overhauling the industry and improving maintenance.

Nigerian prisoners to participate during national and local elections

A Federal court has ruled that prisoners should be able to vote in all national and local elections. The ruling from the Federal High Court in Benin, Edo State, comes ahead of closely-fought general elections in February 2015.

Earlier this year, there were nearly 57,000 prisoners across the country, the Nigerian Prisons Services said. Almost 70% of these have not been convicted of a crime – many wait for their trials for several years.

“To deny inmates the right to vote is unconstitutional, illegal, irregular, unlawful, null and void and of no effect whatsoever,” Justice Mohammed Lima said on Tuesday. “Being an inmate is not an offence that impedes their registration and voting right under section 24 of the Electoral Act,” he added.

The judge ordered Nigeria’s election commission to update its register of voters to take into account the prison population. The presidential election is said to be the closest since the end of military rule in 1999.

President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to face his strongest challenge from former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari. Mr Jonathan won by a landslide against Mr Buhari in 2011, amid claims of rigging. Earlier this week, an election official warned that some 1.5 million people forced from their homes by an Islamist insurgency in the north-east may not be able to vote.

North Korea behind Sony hack says US

It is the film which we will not see in cinemas even though it has gained worldwide recognition. Could Sony’s decision to withdraw ‘The Interview’ after threats from hackers prove to be the most successful cyber attack by North Korea to date?

The movie tells the story of a fictional CIA plot to assassinate Kim Jong-Un. The hackers who call themselves ‘Guardians of Peace’ had earlier released sensitive information stored on Sony computers.

A US official confirmed on Friday that an investigation has determined North Korea was behind the attack adding there was a possible Chinese link. The hack started on November 24 when a message appeared across Sony Pictures computers threatening to release data unless an unnamed “request” was met.

The North Korean regime has denied it was behind the attack, but called it a “legitimate act”. For years North Korea has been pouring resources into a sophisticated cyber-warfare cell called Bureau 121. It is run by the military’s spy agency and staffed by some of the most talented computer experts in the country, many students at the military computer school.

Jang Se-yul, who deserted to South Korea six years ago, was one of those students. He claims there are 1,800 hackers working undercover in countries across the world:
“In North Korea it’s called the Secret War. They can secretly knock an enemy down. They can kill somebody without letting anyone know who did it. Of the undercover operatives he said:
“His company operates as a normal business abroad. He works like a normal businessman. That’s why what he does is so scary.” The aim is to attack the infrastructures of countries Pyongyang deems to be its enemies. In March 2013 South Korea blamed the North for crippling cyber-attacks that froze the computer systems of its banks and television stations for days.

U.N Leaders Urges Weat Africans To Change Traditions In order to Stop Ebola Epidermic

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, starting a visit to Ebola-hit states in West Africa on Friday, urged their people to set aside traditional practices like washing the dead by hand so as to help end an epidemic that has killed nearly 7,000 people.
Ban said he hoped to use his two-day tour of the region – his first since the outbreak was detected in March – to raise the profile of the fight against the disease and to thank the thousands of health workers who have participated.

The virus, which causes vomiting, diarrhea and bleeding in its final stages, is spread by contact with the bodily fluids of the sick. It has no known cure and had never struck in West Africa before.
U.N. officials and health workers have said that many people in the worst affected countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone have been slow to adapt their cultural practices. Many people have denied the existence of the disease or voiced anger at what they see as an attack on their beliefs and way of life.

“We would like to urge local communities that this is a temporary operation and we fully respect the cultural traditions but at this time it is important to abide by health protocols,” Ban told Reuters onboard his flight to Liberia.

“Our goal is to see the last case identified and cured.” The death toll from the nine-month-old spread of the hemorrhagic fever rose to 6,915 as of Dec. 14, according to the World Health Organization.

Liberia, once the prime hotspot of the Ebola outbreak, has seen the number of new infections drop dramatically over the past month, with some health officials citing improved burial practices as a major factor.

“The promising results that Liberia has experienced must be shared regionally to avoid the risk of retransmission,” Ban told journalists in Monrovia, the first leg of his tour. “We need more robust contact tracing. We need better preparedness at the district level.” The U.N. chief arrived later on Friday in Sierra Leone where infection rates are rising fastest, now accounting for more than half of the 18,603 total confirmed cases of the virus.

Infection is spreading rapidly around the coastal capital Freetown, where some aid workers say public information efforts have lagged. Sierra Leone launched “Operation Western Area Surge” this week to contain Ebola – with health workers passing street by street looking for the sick.

“We are aware of reports from persons who fled the scene of the attack that suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped more than 100 women and children and killed 35 people. “We abhor such violence, which continues to take a terrible toll on the people of Nigeria, and we extend our condolences to the victims and their families.

Nigerian federal government purchased 77 T72 tanks to fight Boko Haram

Find below is a pic of recently acquired T72 tanks by GEJ administration to tackle BH. The soldiers moral are so high now because these T72 tanks purchased from Ukraine are Anti-IED, Anti Missile and are indestructible unless shot by another tank.

They were purchased as part of the utilization of the 1Billion dollar loan and 77 were bought and are being distributed in the trouble area. Now boko haram are fleeing and they are now setting IED's everywhere but apparently they cant destroy the Tank.

Last week, BH loaded a Toyota Starlet and while passing like passengers, they ran into one of the tanks and made a huge hole on the ground and killed 5 soldiers but the soldiers inside the tank were not even scratched.

It is their massive IED attack where they plant IED and run away and while combing the area  Major Umar was killed. A gallant Officer. But with these Undestructable tank, One soldier can confidently drive into BH Territory and cause havoc without a scratch. I can confidently tell you that 6 BH Tanks have been destroyed by our troops in Yola.
BH days are over, attach is a pix of 14 tanks deployed to Adamawa.
