Car Bursts Into Flames On The Rumuola Flyover, Port Harcourt (photos)






A Volvo car got burnt yesterday on Rumuola flyover in portharcourt, River state capital.The burnt car caused serious traffic as motorist diverted to other routes.

River State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has since evacuated the debris and the flyover has been open to the public.

Top Taliban leader in charge of recruitment arrested in Kunduz


A top Taliban leader in charge of recruiting for the group in northern Kunduz province was arrested during an operation of the Afghan police forces.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the detained Taliban leader has been identified as Abdullah and was held from the vicinity of Khanabad district.
MoI further added the operation was conducted by Public Order Police forces on Sunday.
Another senior Taliban leader identified as Abdul Wakil was also arrested during the same operation, MoI said, adding that an automatic rifle was confiscated from the detained militants.

At least six people were killed and eight people injured when gunmen stormed a mosque in Quebec, Canada.
The attack, which took place at the city’s Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre, is being investigated as an act of terrorism by police, CNN reports.
Witnesses said at least two gunmen wearing black shot at worshippers in the mosque.
Of the eight people injured, six are in critical condition. The police also said two people have been arrested in what has been described as a terror act by Philippe Couillard, premier of Quebec province.

Nigeria Ranks 19th Among 30 Nations In Retail Investment





Despite the economic recession, the Global Retail Development Index says Nigeria’s retail sector made a national sale of N38tn ($125bn) in 2016.

The country also ranked 19th out of the 30 top developing countries for retail investment, based on all relevant macroeconomic and retail-specific variable.

According to the report, Nigeria’s retail development is supported by a middle class that has grown by 600 per cent in the last few years and now includes 4.1 million households, or 11 per cent of the country’s total population.

85-year-old docked for allegedly clubbing man to death

An octogenarian, Mohammed Bello, is to cool his heels in prison for the next
33 days for allegedly clubbing a man to death, an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court ruled in Lagos on Friday.
The accused, 85, was arraigned before Magistrate K.A. Ariyo on a charge of murder.
Mr. Ariyo, who did not take the plea of the accused, ordered that he should be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director Of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Hafsat Ajibode, said the offence was committed on January 17 at about 11.30 a.m.at Ogudu Grammar School.

Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is not different from his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.
The elder statesman said Buhari is not radical enough to continue to handle Nigeria.
Speaking with Vanguard, Musa said, “The President is just like his predecessor. I ask you what is the remarkable difference between him and his predecessor. No fundamental difference.
“They all believe in the system based on self interest first, while public interest comes after their own interest is served. He is not radical enough to deal with the situation in Nigeria.
“At the moment, the choice of the President and the Senate President is that the leading role of the economy is that of the Private sector which is wrong. As long as we continue with this, we will get no where.

Ikeja bomb blasts: Victims’ families lament delayed compensation

Some 15 years after the Ikeja Military Cantonment Bomb Blasts in Lagos, some victims’ families on Friday cried out to both the Federal and Lagos State governments over the delay in the payment of the compensation promised them.
The Chairman, 2002 Ikeja Bomb Blasts Victims’ Families, Nurudeen Oyegbemi, made the call at the site of the mass burial, where prayers were offered for the souls of the departed at Oke-Afa, Isolo, in Lagos.
While speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Mr. Oyegbemi said the Lagos State Government paid compensation to 70 families of victims, while 84 families were excluded.
