Luis Leads Brazil As Thiagos Appeal Fails

Brazil appealed against Thiago's caution, but - as expected - they were not successful, so former Chelsea defender Luiz will take the armband in Tuesday's semi-final.

FIFA's disciplinary committee refused to consider the appeal - appeals against yellow cards are only permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Thiago picked up the caution against Colombia, imposed after he blocked goalkeeper David Ospina taking a kick, and as it was his second of the tournament he was automatically suspended.

A FIFA statement said: "The disciplinary committee ... cannot consider the matter given the fact that there is no legal basis entitling it to grant such request." Luiz said: "I'm ready. I'm vice-captain and this group is very easy to handle because everyone's very down to earth. It won't be a tough job at all." Luiz has the full support of Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk, who insists the centre-back is the perfect man for the job. "He's just the best," said Hulk. "He's very caring and very attentive, no matter who he's with.

The source also added that some of the escaped women found themselves on the border towns between Adamawa and Borno state and have been taken into custody by the soldiers there. 2014 World Cup: Enyeama,Other Players Get 130,000 Dollars each

According to reports,
Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and a few other players received $130,000 ( N21 million) each as appearance fee for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“It was not a flat rate, but some of the players like Enyeama, who were involved in both the qualifiers as well as the World Cup in Brazil got as much as $130,000,” an official told AfricanFootball.com.

The money is outside the match bonus and daily allowances they were paid. Team officials were also reportedly not left out as some of them received $25,000. But According to the football site, there were disagreements over the money, particularly as regards whether those who qualified the team for Brazil 2014 should also get part of the appearance fee.

"There was a big issue among the senior players whether those who were part of the qualifiers should also get something. At the end of the day, Joseph Yobo prevailed that they also have to be included. So, even some players like John Utaka & Raheem Lawal, who played just a couple of qualifiers, will also get something" An official said

Fashola Bitter Over Soldiers Yesterday's Misconduct

Lagos State Governor, Raji Fashola has condemned the actions of some military men who took to Ikorodu express road yesterday at Palmgroove to burn BRT buses, beat up drivers and even innocent Lagosians who were going about their normal day-to-day activities. The Governor frowned at their action and says he wonders why public servants who are being paid with tax payers’ money should destroy government property and get involved in such illicit act.

“As far I know, if something happens to you while you are conducting an unlawful act it is a criminal offence”, Fashola said.

Read his statement.
”There is an allegation that someone who was not supposed to be on the BRT route was on it. As far I know, if something happens to you while you are conducting an unlawful act it is  a criminal offence. “But it is really disappointing  that public servants, and that is what soldiers are, paid with tax payer’s money, will act in a manner that is being  suggested. “I am waiting for the  official report to let me know who played what role and what happened. And whether the Brigade Commander has been able to identify the people who committed the offence. If it turns out to be true, it will be a very irresponsible conduct, to put it very mildly.

“In 2006  soldiers stormed   the Area C Police Station. We have just managed to reconstruct it. If buses that citizens are complaining are  not enough are set ablaze, I do not know how setting ablaze buses recompense any injury that one may have suffered. I do not know how damaging public property is the restitution for  any injury that may have come. For now, the only thing that I can say to you is that when I get the full fact, I will address the residents, to let them know what happened and what the state action will be. “I have been in touch with the Brigade commander, who assured  me  that he was managing the situation. Nothing I have here is verified, I am waiting for a  formal report before we can ventilate a position”.

Confab Endorses Creation Of Aba,Ijebu,17 Others.

The National Conference on Thursday voted for the creation of 18 more states in the country. The creation of new states was one of the decisions taken by the delegates at their plenary while considering the report of the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government.

Apart from the 18 new states proposed, the conference said a separate state-yet-to-be named should be carved out of the South-East to bring the number of the states in the zone to six. In creating a new state from the South-East geopolitical zone, the conference said the creation would correct the imbalance of the zone having the least number of states.

In the existing 36 states arrangement, each zone has six states with only the North-West having seven states. The new states proposed by the conference are: Aba, to be carved out of the present Abia State; Katagum, from Bauchi State; Ijebu, from Ogun State; Amana, from former Sardauna Province; Apa, from Benue State; Anioma, from Delta State, Savannah, from Borno State; and Etiti, from South-East. Others are Njaba/Anim, from Anambra and Imo states; Gurara, from Kaduna State; Ghari, from Kano State; Adada, New Oyo from Oyo State; Orachi, from Rivers State; Ogoja, from Cross River State; and Kainji, from Kebbi and Niger states. Two other states, one each from the South-East and South-West zones, are also yet to be named.
It was agreed by the delegates that the 18 new states would be shared among the six zones in a manner that no zone would have more states than the other.

Though it was also agreed that states were free to have their constitutions, the request to change the name of Adamawa State to Gongola State was overwhelmingly rejected by the delegates.

The delegates also voted that the Presidency should rotate among the six geopolitical zones of the country.

However, a delegate, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, condemned the decision to create more states. He said the action was at variance with the decisions and resolutions earlier taken by the conference on the need by government to cut cost.

“Having regard to the several resolutions of the National Conference on the need to reduce the cost of governance, I found the recommendation for the creation of additional 18 states rather contradictory,” Falana said.

Nigeria Army Arrest 3 Female Undercover Operatives Of Boko Haram

The Nigerian army have released a statement stating that they have arrested 3 women who worked as undercover operatives for Boko Haram.

Read the statement below...

In the aftermath of the failed suicide bombing attempt on a military facility by a female terrorist who blew herself up in Gombe recently, troops have arrested three suspected female terrorists who have been secretly recruiting ladies into the female wing of the terrorists group. The suspects, Hafsat Usman Bako, Zainab Idris and Aisha Abubakar were intercepted while travelling to Madagali from where they were to transit to the forest to reunite with their cohorts. Continue...

Investigations revealed that the suspects, led by Hafsat Bako, have the mission to recruit members into the female wing as well as conduct espionage for the group. Hafsat’s link with the terrorists group had earlier been a subject of investigation in 2012, when security agents on a manhunt for one Usman Bako, her husband who was identified as a terrorist, stormed their residence in Jimeta.  This resulted in the discovery of an AK 47 rifle and 2 loaded magazines.   Though Usman Bako later died in an encounter with troops in Sokoto where he had relocated to continue his terrorist activities, Hafsat continued with the terror group specializing in surreptitious recruitment of members into their fold.

The arrested trio suspects were luring ladies especially widows and young girls by enticing them with male suitors who are mainly members of their terror group for marriage. Before their arrest, they were on a mission to take additional briefing from the leadership of the terror group. The trio has been operating together as members of the intelligence team of the group.   Their arrest has yielded information still being verified by security agencies.
