About 230 Nigerian soldiers protest unlawful dismissal
227 soldiers serving in the North Eastern zone of Nigeria have protested their alleged dismissal from the Nigerian Army by the General Officer Commanding 3 Armoured Division Jos, Plateau State.
According to Leadership, the protesting soldiers led by Sergeant Abiona Elisha stormed the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Plateau state secretariat yesterday January 16th, holding placards calling for their reinstatement into the army.
According to their leader, they were dismissed from the Army on Tuesday January 13th after being called from their various operation units to face a panel at the barracks and without being given any fair hearing or told what their offenses were.
Some of the soldiers alleged that their refusal to fight members of Boko Haram in October 2014 led to their dismissal.
“We were dismissed this week Tuesday from the service of the Nigerian Army after sending us to go and suffer fighting insurgency in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states. All of a sudden, we were recalled to the barracks and made to face trial. Even at the trial, we were not given the chance to defend ourselves. They just took a decision and dismissed us.
We were not even told what our offences were during the so-called trial. We are surprised that we can be treated like this in our own country. We were sent to fight insurgents without weapons; a lot of our colleagues were killed in the course of defending our father land. Even those who are in hospital treating injuries they sustained from the battle field were also dismissed while still on hospital admission.
The worst situation is that families of our colleagues killed in Adamawa and Yobe are languishing in hunger as the Nigerian Army refused to pay their entitlement ”Sergeant Abiona said When contacted, the the deputy director, army public relation of the 3 Armoured Division, Col Texas Chukwu denied knowledge of the dismissal of the soldiers.
“I have no knowledge of the issue, I just came back from Maiduguri, I am not aware if any soldier was dismissed.” he said
Teenager became engaged to her father after the two were reunited following more than a decade apart
A teenager has told how she became engaged to her FATHER after the two were reunited following more than a decade apart.
The American woman was estranged from her dad growing up, but the two got back in touch when she was 17.After chatting online for a few weeks the two met - and felt an instant attraction.
Speaking to New York Magazine's Science of Us the anonymous woman, now 18, said:
"It was so weird and confusing. I was seeing my dad for the first time in forever but it was also like, He’s so good-looking!"I saw him as my dad but then also part of me was like, I’m meeting this guy who I have been talking to over the internet and really connecting with and I find him attractive.
" She went to stay with him for a week and after just five days the pair discussed their attraction to one another, before losing her virginity to him. They are now a couple, have become engaged, and even plan on having children together. Some of their family members are aware of their relationship - and treat them "just like any other couple" - but her mum is still in the dark.
But the daughter says she will tell her mother once she and her dad have moved to New Jersey where consensual, incestuous relationships where both parties are over 18 are not punished.
She hopes her mother will still want to come and visit her grandchildren. Asked if she was worried about the potential genetic problems that could face their children, she replied "I wouldn’t risk having a kid if I thought it would be harmful. I’ve done my research.
"Incest has been around as long as humans have. Everybody just needs to deal with it as long as nobody is getting hurt or getting pressured or forced." But asked if she would tell their children that their dad was both their father and grandfather, she was less sure.
"We’ve decided that most likely we won’t, she said. "I don’t want to give them any problems."
Okada Snatcher escaped Lynching in Oyo State
But for the timely arrival of policemen from Oyo State Police Command, a 21-year-old suspect, Olatunbosun Adeyemi, would have become history after a mob descended on him on December 22, 2014 and almost burnt him alive.
It was gathered that the mob had already placed tyres round his neck and doused him with petrol, awaiting a lighter to ignite fire, before the arrival of the police.
Crime Reports learnt that Adeyemi was nabbed when he was intercepted about 2-15p.m. on that Monday at Kara area, Ibadan, with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. He and his gang members reportedly snatched the motorcycle with registration number JJS 630 QG from its owner, one Adedare Adedamola, along Oyo-Ibadan expressway, Oyo town after they had used a Toyota Previa car to block him. The bike was taken from the owner after the armed robbers threatened to kill him with the cutlasses they held.
When the information was received at Kara police outstation, the Officer-in-Charge, one ASP Fatai Bisiriyu, was said to have led a team of policemen to the scene where the suspect was rescued and taken into custody. The owner, Adedamola, who was also located, narrated his experience to the police. When interrogated, Adeyemi confessed to have snatched the bike from an okada rider in Oyo town, in connivance with two others whose names he simply gave as Wale and Kazeem. He claimed that they operated with a vehicle and machetes to snatch the motorcycle.
In an interview with Crime Reports, Adeyemi who said he resided at 20, Oke Owa Street, Ijebu Ode, admitted to committing the crime he was accused of, but said he was an unwilling participant. The father of one, while giving an insight to his background, said:
“I stopped schooling while I was in SS2 and started working with a trailer driver as an apprentice. Though my boss used to smoke cigarettes, I learnt how to smoke marijuana in 2014.
“I went to Lagos in December 2014 to look for a job to do so that I could get money to buy clothes for my wife and child for Christmas celebration. While in Lagos, I worked as a conductor in a Molue bus with Wale. We were plying Oshodi in Lagos State to Sango/Ifo/Papa in Ogun State along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. I also knew Kazeem in the process.
“I was told that a guy wanted to hold a party in Ibadan, Oyo State so I followed both of them in a Toyota Previa car. But instead of going to the party in Ibadan, Wale and Kazeem headed towards Oyo town. Before then, they stopped at Academy area of Ibadan and bought two cutlasses. I asked them what they wanted to use the cutlasses for but they asked me to keep calm and watch what they intended doing.
“Along Oyo road, I asked them what we were going to do in Oyo when the party we were to attend was holding in Ibadan. It was then that they opened up and told me that we were going to snatch a motorcycle which I would ride to Lagos State.
“I replied that I had never done such a thing but they snapped at me. Something told me to get down from the vehicle at that moment but I did not obey the spirit; I went along with them. Along the road, Wale and Kazeem sighted an okada rider and used the car we were in to block the rider who was carrying a female passenger.
“The man abandoned his motorcycle and ran into the bush but they went after him, brandishing the cutlasses they bought. They threatened to kill him if he didn’t surrender the key of the motorcycle. They collected the okada and I was asked to ride it to Ibadan toll gate.
They said they would soon join me there.
“Unknown to me, as I rode on, the owner of the motorcycle was following me in a car. Along the way, at Kara area of Moniya, I stopped. As the okada owner sighted me, he raised the alarm and I was apprehended by the people around the place. Two huge tyres were placed round my neck and petrol poured all over me. But I was rescued by the police who came after someone went to inform them that I had been caught. That was how I was saved from instant death.
” Adeyemi further revealed that his parents were committed Christians and his father, particularly, was a pastor. “My parents warned me against misdemeanor but I never listened to them. They frowned at the choice of job I made and said it encouraged me to smoke marijuana. They complained of my recalcitrant attitude,” Adeyemi said.
Confirming the arrest, the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the suspect had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

Nigerian Women Might not vote for Buhari
As a father of five daughters, whenever I think of Muhammadu Buhari, what comes to my mind is a regime that was completely insensitive to the feminine gender.
First of all, Muhammadu Buhari had an all male cabinet at the very time when the world had very good examples of the sterling nature of females in power including the Iron Lady herself, Mrs. Margaret Thatcher of The United Kingdom and the phenomenal Indira Gandhi of India.
Does it mean that neither of these women could inspire Buhari to have included even one woman in his cabinet?
All his ministers and advisers, his Military Governors and the ambassadors he appointed were men!
And to rub salt to injury, Buhari is promising to close down the office of the First Lady if he is elected! In the year 2015! Are we moving forward or backward?
President Jonathan has been campaigning and everybody sees his wife by his side. If I may ask, where was Mrs. Buhari until recently presented for political purposes?
Is she wrapped up in seclusion somewhere? Does her complete isolation from the public personae and campaigns of her husband not indicate that he still does not think that women have a role to play in government even if if is ceremonial?
And nobody should tell me that it is unislamic to honour your wife with a visible place by your side.
Is Buhari more Muslim than the people of Indonesia who elected a woman to head their government in the person of Megawati Sukarnoputri?
Is Buhari more Muslim than the people of Pakistan who elected a woman to lead them in the person of the late Benazir Bhutto?
I deliberately cited Indonesia and Pakistan because they are the largest and second largest Muslim nations in the world with deep Islamic traditions that date back to centuries.
If these nations can entrust women with political power at the highest levels, why should Buhari tend to put women in the background?
I dare say that it has not escaped the attention of Mrs. Buhari that President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed more women into his cabinet and into other high positions than any other government before his.
Again, I suspect that Mrs. Buhari is not unaware of the respect and recognition which the President accords his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan.
Seeing how a secure man treats his wife and seeing how she has been relegated not just to the background, but to obscurity, I have a strong feeling that Mrs. Buhari will not vote for her husband. Methinks President Jonathan would score an unexpected vote from the Buhari household.
I mean, take a look at the campaign rallies of the All Progressive Congress. How many women do we see in prominent positions? Not many or not at all.
Look at the report we are reading from Taraba. On Christmas Day, we were awaken with the headline ‘Taraba: Buhari rejects female APC guber candidate’.
From the story, we understand that General Buhari was not comfortable with the candidacy of Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan who made history as the first woman to win a gubernatorial ticket on a major party and with a landslide at that.
As a former gubernatorial candidate, I know what it takes to win a party primary for the gubernatorial ticket. It is a heavy weight fight in which the winner must defeat several heavy weights.
After Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan performed this feat, instead of being congratulated, she met with rejection from Buhari. It only goes to show how deep seated his prejudices against women is.
If there were ever any doubts as to the role Buhari expects from women that story wipes it away.
If the women of Nigeria want to undo whatever gains they have made in the last four years where they have had 12 women appointed as ministers, in which they finally had entry into the Nigerian Defense Academy courtesy of an Executive Order issued by President Jonathan and the first female Chief Justice of Nigeria appointed under President Jonathan, they may go ahead and vote for Buhari.
But before they do so, they better ask their husbands to buy air conditioners for their kitchens because they may be spending the next four years there.

I will never vote for Buhari- Seun Kuti
Seun Kuti, son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has said he will vote against Buhari over what he did to his father 31 years ago. In a recent chat with the Nigerian Tribune, the father of one said:
“Truth is that I have no reason to give my vote to any of the two contestants, but more especially Buhari because of the eternal emotional damage he caused the Kuti family, especially me.” “I will only urge Nigerians, especially her youths, to come out enmasse to elect the ruler of their choice so that Nigeria’s democracy will continue to grow.
As for me though, I will never vote for Buhari because of what he did to my father. It is a personal grouse. Buhari denied me the chance of seeing my father in the early stage of my life. He arrested and detained Fela in Kirikiri for the same number of years I was growing up without a father, and even did not allow his family members to see him on a daily basis. He eventually jailed my father and I will always remember that. He jailed my innocent father on currency trafficking, but he is claiming to be a saint now. “
