I'm not Ready For Babies Now-Blessing Okagbere

Nigeria’s reigning best athlete, Blessing Okagbare wedded her hubby November 8th 2014 and in a recent interview with the New Telegraph, here's what she said about having babies immediately.

After your wedding, when do you plan to start a family, I mean having babies? A family, hahaha, I am not planning about that now. At the moment I have goals that must be accomplished and some things to be achieved professionally, so starting a family immediately after my wedding is actually not in the schedule for me right now, no way. Honestly, we have already talked about it and my fiancé knows what I do for a living. We have talked about it and he knows there are things I must get done in my career which are very important to me. Having kids now is out of it, there are things in my career that must be accomplished before we start thinking of building a family.

After my wedding the next agenda is to accomplish all the things I have set out to achieve and that is it, not having babies, this will surely come later.

Primary School Certificate Holder Dupes SAN

A 53-year-old primary school certificate holder, Moses Olayemi, has been arraigned before an Ikeja High Court for defrauding a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Olayemi, who was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit felony, was alleged to have defrauded Dr Aliyu Salimon (SAN) under the pretext of conducting a National Assembly screening for a Federal Government appointment.

According to Dr Salimon, he was coerced into paying N2.5 million into a Skye Bank account, only for him to realise that he had been duped.

“I was on my way to Ibadan from Ilorin for an INEC case when I received a call from someone who claimed that he was the Chairman of a  committee compiling the list of people to be given Federal Government appointment.

“He asked me to send my CV, which I did from a nearby cyber cafe. He then asked me to pay N150,000 for him to get security report about me,” he said. The learned SAN, however, pointed out that after several conversations on phone, he sent N2.5 million to an account belonging to one Moses Babatunde, adding that he paid the money, believing it would help him get a better job.

“I paid the money thinking it would help me get a better job. It was after I paid the money that I was told that the job had been given to someone else,” he said. In his own statement, the accused, Moses Olayemi, denied the accusations, adding that he never collected any money from the SAN.

“My friend, Akpan, asked me if I have a Skye Bank account but since I did not have one, I got that of my friend Babatunde. It was when we went to withdraw the money that we were apprehended and handed over to EFCC,” he said. The accused was denied bail by Justice Lawal Akapo on the grounds that he is a convicted criminal who jumped bail in Kano State and fled to Lagos.

Sisters Arrested Trying To Smuggle Marijuana Into Cell For Brother

Officers of the Nigerian Prison Services on Wednesday caught two sisters, Shade Oyetobi and Atinuke Adebanwo, while attempting to smuggle 11 wraps of marijuana into the Ikeja Lagos State High Court holding cell for awaiting trial inmates.

Punch gathered that the culprits, who claimed to be orphans, brought in the illegal substance for their brother, Babatunde Oyetobi, an awaiting trial inmate. According to them, Babatunde, who was arrested during a street fight, had been in prison for about two years. The two sisters, who were handcuffed together, said they had contributed money to hire a lawyer for their brother, adding that they had been coming to court regularly to stand by him since his trial started. Twenty-four-year-old Shade, who said she was a hairdresser, confessed that the marijuna wraps were handed over to her by one, Jamiu, a friend of Babatunde. She said,

“Actually, it was my brother’s friend, Jamiu, who sells watches that gave the stuff to me this morning for my brother. “Jamiu called me on the telephone and gave me the drug. I don’t know where they sell marijuana, I don’t know how much they sell it and I don’t smoke.

” Adebanwo, married with three children, said she was not privy to the arrangement. Crying profusely, the 32-year-old lamented that her sister had put her in trouble. Facing her sister, Adebanwo said, “Oh my God, I don’t know that it is a crime to have the two of you as my siblings. Is it a crime to stand by you after the death of our parents? “I don’t know anything about this whole thing. Please ask her; I am even sick, I was supposed to go for my treatment this morning.

” Speaking to our correspondent, the warder, Mr. A. R. Muhammed, who arrested the sisters, said the marijuana wraps were hid inside a black nylon bag and concealed with a pair of slippers. Muhammad said, “We demanded to know their mission as they were coming in and they told us they wanted to see their brother. We asked to see what was in the black polythene bag, but they said it was a pair of slippers. When we demanded to see the slippers, the younger sister became guarded.

“At that point, we ordered them to walk out if they were not willing to show us the slippers; but we became suspicious when they chose to walk out without seeing their brother rather than show us what was in the nylon bag. That was why we insisted on checking the bag, only to discover that they were trying to smuggle marijuana into the cell.”

Housewife Stabs Husband To Death Over Money In Lagos

The street What started as a mild argument over money turned tragic between a couple in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State after the wife stabbed her husband to death.

And according to Punch, the incident happened on Wednesday, last week, on TK Balogun Street, Igbo Olomu, Ishawo. The woman, Folashade Sodiya, 27, killed her husband, Jude Igbinedor, 39, around 2am after a heated argument over money. They were said to have been in a seven-year relationship, though the union had not been consented to by the parents. They reportedly got married without approval of their parents and started living together two years ago.

The suspect, an indigene of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, had a one-year-old baby for the deceased, who was an Edo State indigene. When PUNCH visited the area on Tuesday, a neighbour, Busola Adewunmi, explained that the couple had only recently relocated to the area. Adding that the couple had barely spent five days in their single room apartment when tragedy struck. Adewunmi described them as gentle and respectful tenants, who complied with the rules of the house, and that Folashade was, however, temperamental while her husband smoked. She said:
“They packed into this house penultimate Saturday morning, around 5am, and the incident happened on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, the wife had asked someone to lend her N1,000 pending when her husband would come back from his mother’s place where he had gone to. The man arrived and even bought vegetables and other food stuffs for his family. In the evening, he came out and also washed the pots they used to cook that day.  It was around 2am that things went sore. I learnt she said he was the first to use a hanger to hit her before she also stabbed him in the chest.

” After Jude was stabbed, Folashade called for help. However, Igbinedor gave up shortly after. The neighbours were said to have alerted policemen from the Owutu Police Division. Another resident, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, said when the police arrived at the scene, they met the suspect on the floor with her baby in her hands. The resident, who declined identification, said:

“She had become remorseful by then. When the police picked the wrong knife as exhibit, she told them she used a stainless knife in killing her husband, which she also fetched for them. It was said that she wanted to take part of the money the husband brought from her mother to offset the money she borrowed, but he declined. She never denied killing him. But she said he was the first to attack her and she only wanted to scare him with the knife.

” PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased’s corpse had been taken to the mortuary, while the suspect was detained at the Owutu Police Station. A police source said the suspect and the deceased had been having silent quarrels before the incident. The source said:
“No one can tell what exactly caused this one. The woman, however, said her grouse with Jude was that he always gave her the impression he did her a favour by letting her have his child. She said she was holding the knife that night to scare him and did not know when he rushed at her and the knife entered his chest.

” When PUNCH contacted a relative of the deceased, he declined comment, referring them to the family lawyer whose contact could not be obtained as of press time. The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, however, confirmed the incident. He said:
“At about 1.15am on November 13, one Jude Igbinedor was stabbed on the chest by his wife, Folashade Shodiya. The victim died on the spot, while his corpse has been taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy.” He added that the case had been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Family Finds Missing Dad, Abandoned By Roadside, Dead

Oranusi's rented apartment. Credit: Olaleye Aluko Five days after a 50-year-old man, Mr. Joseph Oranusi, was reported missing by his family, he has been found dead and abandoned in front of a shop on Capitol Road, Agege, Lagos. Before his death, Oranusi, who hailed from Idemili, Anambra State, was working as a security guard at a complex within the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased, who lived with his family at Olusanya Street, Isokoko, AOgege, was initially reported missing at the Isokoko Police Division on Thursday, October 24 ─ the day he failed to return home from his workplace. The family, apart from reporting to the police, also went to Oranusi’s workplace, and made an announcement on the broadcast media as they searched for their missing father. When the family got to Oranusi’s workplace, they were reportedly told that he signed out from office by 7.15am on the fateful Thursday.

However, five days later, it was learnt that some policemen on patrol from the Dopemu division discovered Oranusi’s corpse in front of an abandoned shop on Capitol Road, Agege. Some neighbours, who declined to give their names, told PUNCH that Oranusi was believed to have slumped and died at the location while on his way back home. A police source added that Oranusi might have survived if help had come his way from pedestrians or residents when he slumped.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, the wife of the deceased, Hope Oranusi, said her greatest pain was that her husband was taken away to a morgue in Yaba, while the family was not contacted even though the police found an identity card on him. She added that the ID card should have prompted the police to trace his workplace and family. She said:  “We had looked everywhere for him since the day of the incident. He had left for work on the night of Wednesday and had not returned in the morning as usual. He had hypertension and he used to take some drugs to alleviate the effects.  It was five days later that a church member called me that someone heard that an abandoned corpse was found in front of a shop on Capitol Road. They did not allow me to see it, but when his younger brother went, it turned out to be my husband.  My shock was that we learnt the police took the body to a morgue for a mass burial. I was very sad. How could a man returning from work and found with an ID card be taken to a morgue for a mass burial without his family or workplace being contacted? However, they have rescinded the decisionl.

” Hope, who has three kids and teaches in a private secondary school, added that she believed that although people might have failed to come to her husband’s rescue, he died a natural death. “He died a natural death. His body was found intact. So, I don’t think anyone was responsible,” she said. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, while confirming the incident, said the police had released the corpse to the family for burial. He said:
“The police recovered his corpse. His case was recorded as Sudden and Unnatural Death. The police took the body to a morgue where an autopsy should have been conducted to ascertain the cause of death. But on the family’s request, his body has now been released for burial.”

"I Hardly Get What I Want In Life"- President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday told a gathering of the Peoples Democratic Party leaders in the Presidential Villa, Abuja that he hardly gets what he looks forward to in life.

According to PUNCH, Jonathan, who boasted that no party would defeat the PDP during the 2015 polls said sometimes, things that he did not think about are the ones he gets. Jonathan said:

“In my own life, the things I look for I hardly get. It’s what I don’t even think about that I get sometimes. I believe most of you will smile. But collectively, first and foremost, let us unite the party and work together for our collective victory.  Let me use this unique opportunity to plead with all of us who are aspiring for electoral offices that the world does not begin and end with the office you are looking for. Sometimes, you would be looking for an office, you may not be able to get it for one reason or the other. Let us say somebody blocked you, so be it, let somebody block you. But if God wants something better for you, even after that blocking, you will get something else.  I plead with all of us that we should not play the do-or-die, except I get it, let the party sink. We are taking inventory of all what is happening in all the states and I promise that we will try and use as many people as possible. There are challenges in some states. People may deliberately block you. You may even be the best candidate in that particular constituency, but let us move ahead.  I’m yet to see those who can beat the PDP. They will continue to make the noise but they cannot beat us, because the gap between PDP and others is very wide. The way we do things and the way they do things are very different; the way we talk and the way they talk are very different; the way we reason and the way they reason are very different.  Our commitment to transform this country and their thinking about Nigeria are very different. And I promise you my party men and women and indeed all Nigerians that with your support, collectively we must move this country to where we want it to be. Every day, every week and every month, we must add something; we must change and continue to change.”

US Embassy Ruins Blessing Okagbere's Honeymoon

Blessing crying Nigeria’s fastest woman, Blessing Okagbare, who tied the knot with heart-throb, Igho Otegheri on November 8 has been denied honeymoon time with her husband by the American embassy.

According to Vanguard, Okagbare and her footballer husband, planned to travel to Los Angeles where the double sprint 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist is based. But Otegheri was denied a visa, something that left Okagbare distraught and confused. Okagbare trains with American coach, John Smith in Los Angles and was hoping that her husband who won four caps with the Super Eagles will be around at her weakest moments. Blessing told Vanguard:
“I feel so bad that America Embassy would turn down the visa request by my husband to travel with me to Los Angeles. I have resumed training for the season and I have to go back to my base (Los Angeles) with my husband so that I can concentrate. I have sent copies of my documents, including my Resident Permit in Los Angeles to them so as to facilitate my husband’s traveling with me to the States, but they refused.

Help me appeal to them to grant him visa because it won’t be easy for me to shuttle between Nigeria and the States every time. I have to concentrate on my training and the only way to do so is to have my husband with me in the States. I have been so sad since my husband returned from Abuja with this bad news. They have to do something about it,” she lamented

Umaru Bayi was driving a commercial bus which departed from Jos in Plateau State Monday night, with a full set of passengers bound for Lagos. As they approached Lagos from Ibadan around 1 p.m. during their journey they were stopped by a policeman in a patrol van on the highway. The van was later identified by its plate number, C NPF 6843. Cultist Hack Man To Death in Lagos

Scene of the incident There was pandemonium in a community market on Johnson Street, Somolu, Lagos State, on Wednesday as some suspected cultists shot and hacked to death a 22-year-old resident, identified only as Ahmed, aka Bobo.

And according to PUNCH Metro, the killers were suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity. A trader, Tawakalitu Omosebi, told Punch on Friday during a visit to the market that Ahmed was trailed to the area by a three-man gang. She said:
“It was around 8.30pm on Wednesday when those men stormed the market. They have been coming here for some time. On that day, they met him at a lotto kiosk. He was trying to check the result and he was alone. When he realised that he had been surrounded, he tried to escape, but they trapped him. They first shot him in the chest before they started hacking him with cutlass. They later left, fearing that his friends might show up.

” Omosebi said the gang also attacked some of the traders and dispossessed customers of phones and money when they were leaving. Some minutes after the cultists left, Ahmed’s friends came and took him to a private hospital in the area. “When they took him to the private hospital, the management of the hospital asked them to produce a police report, but since they were also cultists, they were afraid and that was how he died. It took about 30 mintues before he finally gave up,” she added.

Findings by PUNCH Metro showed there had been a series of cult clashes between some Eiye gang members on Johnson Street and their rivals in Aiye confraternity from Kusa Street, a neighbouring community. A source in the area said Ahmed was killed as a reprisal for an earlier attack he allegedly led. He said:

“A few days earlier, Ahmed led an attack on Kusa Street and attacked a rival cult member. He thought the man was dead, but the man’s friends rushed him to the hospital and he survived. Those people now mobilised and killed him on Wednesday.” Investigations further revealed that Ahmed was shot by a teenage gangster, identified only as Ibrahim, aka Elede. A resident, Kola Oyedapo, explained to PUNCH Metro that Elede had been responsible for some deaths in the area in recent times. When their correspondent approached the owner of the lotto kiosk where Ahmed was reportedly killed, he declined comment, saying he was not around at the time of the incident. A resident, who was scanning through a printed paper, queried him on his interest in reporting the incident.

“Why do you want to report it? You should just leave the matter to rest,” he said. Meanwhile, some traders in the market have lamented the spate of cult attacks in the street, pleading with the government to intervene. A vegetable seller, Ibukun Matthew, said:

“We have been living in fear here. Some parents are even too scared to send their children to the market because of the rate at which these cultists strike. Anything can happen at any time.

” The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary. He said: “At about 8.30pm, two cult groups engaged one another in a rivalry clash at Johnson Street, Pedro, and in the process, a yet-to-be-identified male, suspected to be a member of one of the groups lost his life. Corpse has been deposited at the Gbagada General Hospital Morgue for autopsy.”

Cleric Kills 62- year-old Woman, Dumps Corpse On Bridge

The police in Lagos have arrested a cleric, Mr. Isiaka Akanbi, for allegedly killing a 62-year-old woman, Raliatu Kareem. They also accused Akanbi of stealing the deceased’s wallet and other personal effects.

PUNCH Metro reports that Akanbi, popularly called Alfa, had a traditional healing centre on Lawani Street, in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos. His victim, Kareem, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, had known Akanbi for about 20 years as she was a close customer of his. It was gathered that on Saturday, October 25, Kareem, who lived on Ope-Ewe Street, Agbado Ijaiye, Lagos, went to visit an elder sister, Risikatu Raheem, whose daughter put to bed in the Olodi Apapa area. She was said to have left Ijaiye after the monthly environmental exercise was over, informing her 20-year-old son, Abdullahi, of the visit to her sister. Kareem reportedly stayed till around 6pm at her sister’s place on Salubi Street before she headed for the Alfa’s place. However, two days later, Kareem did not return home as she promised. The family became apprehensive and went on her trail to the Olodi Apapa area. After failing to locate Kareem at the sister’s apartment, some family members, who knew she was a friend of the cleric, decided to check the Alfa’s place. On getting to Akanbi’s centre,

PUNCH Metro learnt that the Alfa denied setting eyes on Kareem. However, the family became suspicious when Akanbi reportedly started packing his property, and preparing to flee the house some hours later.  The family was said to have raised the alarm and headed for the Tolu Police Station to report the incident. The police later came to arrest Akanbi. During interrogation, 55-year-old Akanbi told the police that he did not kill the woman, adding that she died in his place. Akanbi added that when he realised the woman was dead, he buried her personal effects to erase any trace of her in his house. He also told the police that he took the corpse to Marine Bridge, abandoning it there. He said:

“On the evening of October 26, it is true that she visited me. We have been very good friends too. On that day, she just collapsed and became unconscious. I quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital, but I was shocked when the nurses told me she had died.  I got a NAPE tricycle and took her corpse to the Marine Bridge that same night and abandoned it there. I did not want people to trace her corpse to me. When I got home, I buried her wallet, handset, bangle and ring behind my house.  I did not kill her. I am an Alfa, I do favour charms for traders. I met Raliatu in 1986. Since then, we have been family friends. She used to come to my place for consultation and I had been to her house too.

” One of Kareem’s children, Abdullahi, said the family wanted Akanbi to produce the corpse of their mother so that they could bury her appropriately. He said:  “I have seen the man in our house a number of times. But he said she died in his house and he now took her corpse to Marina Bridge and abandoned it. We want him to produce that corpse so that we can bury her appropriately.

” The family said Akanbi might have dumped Kareem’s corpse in the lagoon as they could not find it on the Marine Bridge where Akanbi claimed he had dropped it. After contacting all relevant agencies in the state, the family said the corpse had yet to be found.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the case. He said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, for further investigation.

Gov.Ayo Fayose Accused Of Awarding N200 million Contract To His Blood Brother

The APC in in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of awarding a contract of repainting the Ekiti State Governor's Office to his 'blood brother' at the cost of N200m.

The APC alleged that Gov. Fayose asked for marble to be put in front of the Government House, something they claim he'd earlier condemned as being too expensive.

In a statement by Ekiti State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, yesterday Nov 16, APC said,

"To add salt to injury, artisans working on the marble are all brought from Ibadan when many Ekiti artisans could do the job. This is a man who claims to be a friend of the masses. He is repainting the Governor's Office awarded by direct labour at the cost of N200m to his blood brother." continue...

"He told the Permanent Secretary, General Administration Department and Head of Service to find an alternative entrance for civil servants who work within the Governor's Office building because he doesn't want to be meeting the workers while coming in through the main entrance. This has been effected as civil servants in the Governor's Office now pass through the back to their offices, yet this is the class of people he professed to be his friends before the election and he has also cancelled the appointment of eight permanent secretaries that were legally appointed after passing necessary examinations according to the service rules.'‎ they alleged

Sanusi Advices Nigerians To Arm Themselves Against Boko Haram

Former CBN governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi has advised Nigerians who are constantly faced with attacks from Boko Haram members, to arm themselves against further attacks from the sect.

According to BBC, the respected ruler said this at a prayer meeting last Friday.

"These terrorists slaughter our boys and abduct our girls to force them into slavery. People should not be afraid of them because of the recent success they seem to have achieved. People should not sit idle and say prayer is the only solution. People should be made aware of the importance of being in a state of preparedness and make sure they acquire what they need to protect themselves. People must not assume that the crisis will not reach their area. If it comes, we are asking God to give us fortitude, but if He wishes to take martyrs from amongst us, we should be ready to give our lives." he said.

Bodies Of South Africans Killed In Synagogue Collapse Building Arrive SA

A cargo plane carrying the remains of 74 South Africans killed in Prophet TB Joshua's church building collapse landed in Pretoria, South Africa today, two months after the accident. According to AFP, a chartered Antonov plane laden with four mortuary vans landed at the Waterkloof air force base shortly before 8am GMT in an event carried live by public broadcaster SABC.

Nigeria released the bodies last night after a high-level government delegation led by Jeff Radebe, a minister in the presidency, spent a week in Nigeria to fast-track the repatriation process.

The head of the mega-church and one of Nigeria’s most popular preachers, TB Joshua, suggested that a low-flying aircraft reportedly seen over the building four times before it came down was to blame for the collapse, and said he had been targeted in a deliberate attack.
The remains of another nine South Africans among the 116 people killed on September 12 will be repatriated after the DNA identification process is complete. See more pics after the cut. Boko Haram Problem Is Religious-Oritsejafor

The National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor shortly after celebrating his birthday on Monday by giving out cheques of N50,000 each to 30 disabled people has said Nigerians need to stop pretending boko haram is a political war and its high time we face reality.

Boko Haram is a religious war and its high time Islamic leaders talk some sense into them including Shekau himself, he explains. Now the third thing; this is also very important, Nigerians, I beg us, let us stop this pretence. It is either we are totally ignorant, which I will be surprised of, or we are totally wicked and pretentious. We keep saying that this thing is not religious; it’s an insult to the sensibility of the average Nigerian. So when will we agree that this is a religious problem? When Nigeria is wiped out? When these people overrun the whole nation before we will know? I read in the papers today that an insurgent was walking around the streets of Mubi preaching.

The report states that Boko Haram patrol captured towns preaching to residents. Are they going round begging for food? They are preaching. Preaching what? Don’t we know what they are preaching? They are preaching Sharia. Why are we pretending to be politically correct? There are Muslims that are good friends and I associate with. I love them. I cannot hate Muslims. Why should I? My religion forbids me to do that, but I am begging these people that Muslim clerics, the notable ones from all the denominations of Islam, because Islam has denominations; all the Muslim clerics, all the Muslim political leaders, all the Muslim traditional rulers; these three groups should please for God’s sake and for the sake of Nigeria and for the sake of their own future and their own children and children’s children, they should come together.

Boko Haram will not listen to me. Boko Haram is an ideology. Please ask this question, what is the Salafi ideology in Islam? What is the Wahhabi doctrine in Islam? Are there doctrines like that? Yes. What are the doctrines that these terrorists around the world believe in? The doctrines they are teaching, are they not coming out of this Wahhabi and Salafi doctrines? Boko Haram is basically an ideology. To defeat an ideology, you need a superior ideology. Many of our Muslim brothers have come to say to those of us who don’t know much about Islam that these people are not Muslims.
Alright, but what are these people preaching? Is it not from the Quran? Now you say you have the real thing that this is not the real thing. Then match the real thing with the unreal thing or with the fake. In other words, they must engage these people. There are few Muslim clerics that these people respect till tomorrow. From what I hear, they like discussing the Quran, up to Shekau himself. They must find ways to engage them. I will never have access to them. They don’t even want to hear anything about me because I’m an infidel. But they would listen to some of these clerics.

They must locate them, find ways to engage them probably through some of these their Quranic studies and scholars, they may be able to get to a point where they can discourage some of their activities and gradually get them to become sane again, he told Vanguard.

Boko Haram Reportedly Has About 6,000 Fighters Ready To Die

In a startling new revelation by an insider, Boko Haram refuses to go extinct because of the growing number of its members.

The source told The Nation  “Boko Haram has nearly 10,000 ideological army and over 50,000 conscripts, including 40 per cent underage. We are not even counting numerous sect members in Abuja, Kano, Bauchi and in different parts of Nigeria, West Africa and as far as Sudan.

“Most of them prefer to die in battle than to be back to their camps safely due to the endemic indoctrination within the cult group. This is the reason why I always say here and everywhere that this crisis is far from over. The only thing for now: Ya Allah protect us and unite us to defeat our enemies.

” He continued The crisis is far more serious than it is being reported. Last week, my father’s friend and former DSS colleague was slaughtered by Boko Haram in Hawul, his son drove to the scene to pick his father’s corpse and he was killed too. “Yes, they are now in Hawul, few kilometres to Biu. My mum’s twin sister is missing in the past two days, she ran away from Boko Haram to the bush in Garkida. Many of my relatives have fled to the mountains, some barefooted. Nigeria is at war.

“There is indeed a silent humanitarian emergency in the North-East that is being shielded from the rest of the world. The highly placed source continued “Gwoza, Sambisa and Mandara mountains are the vortex of Boko Haram insurgency. Until we take these areas, we have a lot more to do. Boko Haram has very active cells in different parts of the north including Lagos and Kogi.“What is important in my opinion is for Nigerians (leaders and the led) to figure out what is responsible for the problem in the first place.

“Today, Boko Haram and IS are in contact and people are even surprised when it was confirmed yesterday. But some of us said it repeatedly in the media. This is a problem that needs all Nigerians to be on board. I blame the National Assembly the most for not insisting on accountability from the military and the executive arm. Alas, they are equally not accountable to Nigerians.

“The people in the North-East do not care about the conspiracy theories we peddle here, they just want to survive another horrifying day.”

How Teacher Saved Another School Assembly Disaster

It was never imagined that two schools could be targeted by bombers within two days in Niger State, but it happened.

The first was a tertiary institution – Federal College of Education, Kontagora – while the other was Maryam Babangida Science College named after a former first lady, Maryam Babangida, by the government of Dr. Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu.
Two bombers were involved. That of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora was perpetrated by a female and the mission was accomplished but with low casualty while that of Minna by a male was aborted. Maryam Babangida Science College is a female  college planned to be a model school. On the fateful Thursday, the students were at the assembly ground not knowing that there was a sinister move meters away by a bomber.

At about 7.30 a.m., a female teacher hurrying to school suspected strange movements in the bush. She also perceived the odour of Indian hemp which sent a signal to her that something strange was happening nearby. This led her to quickening her steps, but ahead of her was a young man carrying a school bag who pretended as if he was answering nature’s call. Then her phone rang and this caught the attention of the suspect who stopped her and threw some questions at her in Hausa. Suspect- Where are you heading for? Teacher- To school for today’s job.

Suspect- Are you not aware that there is no school today.

Teacher- I am not aware because nobody told us of any holiday.

Suspect- Whether there is holiday or not, I want to advise you to go back home now in your own interest  if you don’t want to lose your life! It was at this point that the teacher knew that the man had a sinister mission.
She immediately put off her shoes and rushed to the school premises to alert the principal and other staff of her encounter.

The suspect was dressed in the school uniform, covering her head with Hijab, thereby pretending to be a female student.

PANIC
Confusion enveloped the school premises immediately, but the situation was calmed by the authorities. By the time people rushed to the scene, the suspect had taken to his heels. The police and other security agencies were informed and took over the security of the school with the gates closed to visitors and movement in and out restricted.

When our correspondent got to the school, some officials of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) , a pick up van of the army, police and SSS were directly opposite the principal’s office, strategizing while normal classes were going on. Principal of the school, Hajiya Fatima Madugu, who also spoke with our correspondent, said,
“Just help us thank God for the alertness of our staff and intervention by God. The mission of the suspect was to disguise as one of our students and sneak to the assembly ground to carry out his dastardly act but God intervened. Before we could mobilise to the scene, the suspect had fled but we immediately alerted the police and other security agencies who mobilised to our compound.

” The female teacher told our correspondent that as the conversation was going on between her and the suspect, fear has gripped her and she was left with no option than to take to her heels. The state police spokesman, DSP Ibrahim Gambari, confirmed the incident but said the attempt should not be seen as an invasion by Boko Haram. “‘The suspect could be a lunatic but, not withstanding, our men have been drafted to the school for further investigations and I can tell you that the bush around the school has been combed and nothing incriminating found with no arrest made’’.

Meanwhile, the Niger government has suspended morning assembly and other religious gatherings in all schools in the state in order not to attract the attention of criminals. Similarly, because of the porous nature of Maryam Babangida Girls Science College and similar schools, all girls schools in the state will be fenced by next year in order to check insecurity to the affected schools.
