Boy with 180-degree ankle neck gets surgical operation(photos)

A boy whose head hangs at a 180-degree angle is set to go under the knife thanks to an 'overwhelming' response from doctors and donations of more than £10,000 from around the world.

Dailymail reports that,Mahendra Ahirwar, 12, who suffers from a rare condition that makes his neck bend and his head hang from his body, faced a bleak future before his story was publicised last month.

His once-desperate parents, from Madhya Pradesh in central India, had admitted they would rather their son died than continue to suffer, but have now thanked doctors and members of the public for their generosity.

Mahendra, whose weak backbone means he can't stand or walk and is restricted to a sitting position, is currently at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, awaiting confirmation of life-changing surgery....

Dr Rajagopalan Krishnan, a senior consultant and spinal surgeon, is hopeful he can improve Mahendra’s life. He and a team of doctors have offered the surgery at no charge to the family.
‘I’ve done a preliminary review of the child's clinical status and we now have a working diagnosis and once I have completed a few more studies, I am pretty sure that I can correct his disability by surgery in the not too distant future. 'At the very least, I am certain that I can improve his quality of life and he will be able to look at the world straight rather than upside down.‘I just feel sad that nothing was done for this boy for 12 years of his life.'

Man runs into Lagos church and dies

Controversy is currently trailing the mysterious death of a man in a church located in Peace Estate, Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos.

The man, identified as Waheed Majekodumi, was allegedly found dead in a branch of Christ Apostolic Church.

It was gathered that the deceased, who lives in the Abule area of Ipaja and works in a block making industry, ran into the church shouting “help, help, I will die.” But before help could come his way, he gave up the ghost.
The resident pastor of the church, who gave his name as Popoola Oluwasumidotun, and a member of the church, identified as Folashade Ebun, who were both present at the scene of the incident, claimed they knew nothing about the death of late Waheed. It was also learned that the deceased, a 32-year-old father of four, had been divorced for the past seven years and had since lived alone.
Pastor Popoola, 27, told Vanguard:
“I am the Presiding Pastor of the church and I also live in the church compound. On Thursday morning, I was about to take my bath and prepare for a programme, which holds in the church every Thursday, when I heard Folashade, one of the members of the church, who also lives within the church premises, calling on me. I ran into the church auditorium where the shout was coming from.

‘’I saw her standing next to a man on the ground. I asked her what happened and who the man was. She said the man ran into the church shouting ‘help! help! I will die’ and then slumped. I did not know what to do.
‘’I rushed outside to find out if anyone around knows him. Fortunately, I saw the husband to one of the members of my church and I asked him if he knows the man and he said the man lived at Abule, a street not far from the church.Searching for Waheed’s home

“Folashade and I went to Abule. We asked a few people if they knew Waheed and they said yes that he was a drunk.

“Some of the people around came to the scene of the incident, checked him and confirmed him dead.
‘’I immediately had to call my boss, the owner of the church. I also called his son who is also a pastor. When his son came, he advised we go and report the case to the police. So we went to Ipaja Police Station to make the report.”
In her defence, Folashade, a mother of three, said she was sweeping the church auditorium in readiness for a programme when the deceased ran into the church, calling out for help.
: ‘’Initially, I thought someone was chasing him, but I later discovered he was alone. He fell to the ground and I quickly called out for the pastor, who also came in almost immediately.’He asked what the matter was and I told him. Sincerely, we have nothing to do with his death. No matter what, I have confidence in the God we serve that He will vindicate us.”
Chief Idowu Animashaun, a relative of the deceased, told Vanguard that he heard about the incident two days after it happened.
“Waheed lived a reckless life. He took to drinking as a way of life and that was why I stopped him from coming to my house.”
Wife of the late Waheed, Mrs. Mohundat, also attested to the fact that her ex-husband lived a carefree life.
“I was married to Waheed for eight years and I had four children for him. However, in the latter part of our marriage, he took to drinking and leaving home for as long as two months without asking how the children and I were surviving.“For me, I do not suspect that anyone is responsible for his death.”
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Public Relations Officers, Deputy Superinten-dent of Police, Kenneth Nwosu, said the case was currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCIID.

Igbos will secede if marginalised-Ohanaeze threatens

The Chairman of state Presidents of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural organization, in seven Igbo speaking state, Dr. Chris Eluemunoh, on Tuesday warned against any attempt to “further marginalise” the Igbo in Nigeria.
Punch reports that,Eluemunoh, who spoke with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, said such attempt would be greeted with a strong move for self-determination by the Igbo.
For him, Ndigbo had such concluded on such option, waiting for the “opportune time” to use the joker.
He said already, the United Nations had invited some Igbo elders, to hear them out about their demand for a sovereign state for the Igbo in June.
He said former National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, would be leading the Igbo delegation to the United Nations in June.....
Eluomunoh, who was speaking against the backdrop of speculation that the incoming government of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, might marginalise the Igbo because the people of the South-East voted against him in the just concluded general elections.
He said some time last year, the African Union had also granted an Igbo delegation a similar audience in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Ohanaeze boss said the best path the Buhari administration would toe would be to discuss with Igbo leaders on how to chart a viable course for the country.
Eluomunoh added,
“Buhari must give us one additional state to put us at par with our other brothers. He must also implement the report of the National Conference. If he turns his back to that report, he is turning his back to the unity of Nigeria. If he kills the report, he is killing the unity of Nigeria.”
He admitted that the change that came to the country after the last general elections was a welcome development, given the fact that the Peolpes Democratic Party had stayed on the stage for a long time.
The Ohanaeze chief opined that there would be no real change in Nigeria if there “is no structural change” in the country.
Eluemuno disowned the Chief Ralph Obioha-led Ohanaeze Caretaker Committee, which visited Buhari and canvassed for appointments for the Igbos, dismissing report of any conflict in the organisation.

Nursing mother treks from Minna to Abuja for GMB

A 35 year old nursing mother, Mrs. Alice Daniel, is now on her way from Minna to Abuja as she treks for Buhari..
Mrs. Alice, a mother of five, told Newsline, she vowed to Trek if Buhari won the presidential elections..She said her decision was fueled after her husband, Abdulwasiu informed her that he had a dream that President Goodluck Jonathan was going to lose the presidential election to Gen.Buhari.

She said she told her husband that it would not be possible for an incumbent president to lose the election to an opposition candidate, adding that even if he won, he would not be declared winner as was the case in the 2007 and 2011. At the time, she said, she was heavily pregnant and due for the labour ward.
She promised that if Gen. Buhari won the election and was declared winner she would trek from Minna to Abuja to personally congratulate him for the victory.

Mrs. Alice, told Newsline that there were efforts by her husband, mother and some family members as well as friends to stop her, but that her mind was made up to fulfill the promise she had made to herself.
She took off on the foot journey at about 6:00am on Sunday, from Chanchaga bridge, and while sharing the experience of her mission so far, she said it was fun and that some motorists who were ignorant of her mission offered to assist her but she declined, while others gave her money.

When asked of the health hazard of her mission on her and her newly born baby girl, considering the fact that she gave birth just barely 40 days ago, she expressed optimism that nothing would happen to her and her child and that the only thing she looked forward to was for her to accomplish her mission.

She said if she reached Abuja she will head straight to Gen. Buhari’s campaign office where she hoped to be led to the president-elect.

Mrs. Alice said she intends to walk between 6:00am to 5:00pm daily and rest at intervals.

Job Seeker rapes schoolgirl to death in Ogun

An unemployed man, Ishau Arowolo, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, Sofiatu Akilolu, to death in Orisada-Eyo Community in the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun state.
According to Punch Metro 25-year-old Arowolo, after raping the girl, allegedly caused her to drown.
It was said that the suspect lurked in a bush near the community river to perpetrate the act.
Sofiatu, who was a Basic five pupil of the Local Government Authority Primary School, had been sent by her parents to a river in the area to fetch water when she was attacked and raped by Arowolo.

Sofiatu, at about 5pm on Wednesday, April 1, went to the stream in company with a friend, identified simply as Abibatu. It was gathered that Arowolo snatched the victim and took her under a tree, where he raped her.

A resident, who identified himself only as Jamiu, told Punch Metro on Tuesday that Abibatu alerted the community that Sofiatu was being raped in a bush.
He said, “The river is called Agude. It serves the community. That was not the first time little girls would go to fetch water at the place. On that day, the two girls met Ishau (Arowolo) and greeted him.
“Later, they observed he was coming behind them. Suddenly, he grabbed Sofiatu and entered into a bush to carry out the act. The other girl ran back to the community to tell us.
“When we got to the place, we did not find both of them, except their clothes and shoes. We began to comb the forest, until someone raised the alarm that Arowolo was hiding in the river. When we checked, he was found and pulled out.
“Minutes later, we also found Sofiatu. He might have drowned the girl after he raped her. She was unconscious, while blood was dripping from her private parts.”
Sofiatu was taken out of the river and rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
Angry youths, who learnt of the girl’s death, reportedly beat up Arowolo, but they were said to have been prevented from lynching him by elders.
The Baale of the community, Chief Adeogun Hussein, who spoke in Yoruba, told our correspondent that such incident was strange in the area.
“This occurrence is very strange in our area. It is unfortunate that someone would conceive such evil. The river, where the rapist hid, is very popular. We usually wash and bathe there. The river is also believed to have power to cure sicknesses.
“The advice I have for parents is to take more care of their children, and anyone found committing such tragic act should also be ready to face terrible consequences.”
Efforts by PUNCH Metro to speak with Sofiatu’s parents were not successful as of the time of the report, as they were said to have moved out of the area.
Our correspondent gathered that Sofiatu was buried the following day after the incident according to the Islamic rites.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident. He added that the police had charged the suspect to court.
“The suspect has been transferred from Owode to the state police headquarters, Eleweran. We have also charged him to court.
“But the mother of the victim has come to the police to say she is no longer interested in pursuing the matter. We are going to minute her stand to the Commissioner of Police to await further directives.”

It is believed that those girls have escaped,''The latest info I got on them is they are still on the run, but still in Mosul, and ISIL is thoroughly searching for them and hasn't captured them yet.'They are Brits, not immigrants, and they are very young teens (around 16 years old). That's all I have about them for now.'

North Korean Defence minister executed for not being Loyal to Kim Jong Un

North Korea’s defence minister has been executed with an anti-aircraft gun for falling asleep during military meetings and answering back to leader Kim Jong-Un, it has been claimed.

Hyon Yong-Chol, who was named Minister of the People's Armed Forces in 2012, was killed in the capital Pyongyang by the unconventional firing squad on charges of disloyalty and disrespect.

Han Ki-Beom, the deputy director of South Korea's National Intelligence Agency (NIS), told a parliamentary committee that hundreds of officials watched the execution in Pyongyang on April 30.

The intelligence service told politicians that Hyon was killed by an anti-aircraft gun at Kang Kon Military Academy - a method cited in various unconfirmed reports as being reserved for senior officials who the leadership wishes to make examples of.

Hyon, who is in his sixties, was apparently caught dozing off during formal military events and also talked back to Kim Jong-Un on several occasions.

Lawmaker Shin Kyoung-min, who attended the parliamentary briefing during which news of the execution was announced, said the NIS believed it to be true.

The execution was initially reported by South Korea's Yonhap news agency, although reports from North Korea are impossible to independently confirm.

Hyon is believed to have been a general since 2010 and served on the committee for late leader Kim Jong-il's funeral in December 2011, before becoming defence minister.
