A businesswoman, identified as Lizzy, has been found dead at her apartment on the Odusanya Oduguwa Crescent, Green Estate, Amuwo Odofin Area of Lagos State. The incident happened on Saturday morning. PUNCHMetro reports that the 39-year-old indigene of Anambra State was murdered in cold blood by her boyfriend who also carted away her money, ATM cards, jewellery and a Range Rover Sport.

Their correspondent learnt from a police source that Lizzy, an executive in a networking firm, had four children from a previous marriage which had broken down and was planning to travel to the United States on Thursday (today) when she was strangled by the suspect.

The source said: “She was into networking and owned houses in different parts of Lagos. She was an international businesswoman and travelled round the world. She had said she would be travelling to the US this week and had gone to the bank with her boyfriend to withdraw N4m. When they both got to her house, the man tied her hands and strangled her. 116 Passengers On Board Missing Algerian Aircraft Feared Dead

The fate of the Air Algerie flight which vanished with 116 people on board en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers appears to have been uncovered after Mali's President confirmed wreckage has been found.

Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said today that the wreckage of the flight had been spotted in his country's desert north. 'I have just been informed that the wreckage has been found between Aguelhoc and Kidal,' Keita said during a meeting of political, religious and civil society leaders in Bamako. He did not give any more details. This is the third major aviation disaster in a week, following the MH17 disaster in Ukraine and the TransAsia Airways crash in Taiwan yesterday. Nearly 250 people died in these two crashes and the week's grim toll may now rise by 116 more.
A Nigerian has been reported among the passengers on AH5017. Air navigation services lost track of the Swiftair MD-83 around 50 minutes into the flight after the crew reportedly asked to change course over fears it was flying into a storm.

How To Prevent You And Your Loved Ones Contracting The Ebola Virus

The Lagos State Government yesterday confirmed a possible case of Ebola Virus, which is been currently investigated while treatment is on for the 40 year old Liberian, who is now a suspect, and a possible 30 others who may have had contact with him.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr Yewande Adeshina, in a briefing noted that the 40 year old Liberian is in a private hospital in the Obalende area of the State. And that the hospital housing the Liberian has been cordoned off and the victim isolated. However, there's the need for all of us, even if you are not in Lagos, to watch out and stay safe. Here are some tips:

WHAT IS EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE?
Ebola virus disease (EVD) or Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is the human disease caused by ebola viruses. Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus with a fever, throat and muscle pains, and headaches. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease has a case fatality rate of up to 90 per cent, this means about 90 per cent of individuals that suffer from the disease could die.

  TREATMENT
No vaccine for EVD is available. Several vaccines are being tested, but none are available for clinical use.    TRANSMISSION Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals. Ebola then spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluids. Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola. Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to 7 weeks after recovery from illness. Health-care workers have frequently been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed EVD.

PREVENTION:
Wash your hands frequently. As with other infectious diseases, one of the most important preventive measures for Ebola virus is frequent hand-washing. Use soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand rubs containing at least 60 percent alcohol when soap and water aren't available. Avoid bush meat. In developing countries, wild animals, including nonhuman primates, are sold in local markets. Avoid buying or eating any of these animals. Avoid contact with infected people. In particular, caregivers should avoid contact with the person's body fluids and tissues, including blood, semen, vaginal secretions and saliva. People with Ebola are most contagious in the later stages of the disease.

Follow infection-control procedures. If you're a health care worker, wear protective clothing — such as gloves, masks, gowns and eye shields. Keep infected people isolated from others. Carefully disinfect and dispose of needles and other instruments. Injection needles and syringes should not be reused. Don't handle remains. The bodies of people who have died of Ebola disease are still contagious. Specially organized and trained teams should bury the remains, using appropriate safety equipment. Avoid traveling to areas of known outbreaks. Watch out for people with flu-like symptoms and sudden fever.

Those who notice “strange feeling or symptoms similar to those of Ebola virus, which ranges from fever, headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, sore throat and joint pains, which are all symptoms of other ailments, are urged to visit competent health facilities. In the absence of such facilities, please call the following numbers: 08023169485, 08033086660, 08033065303, 08055281442, 08055329229.

Nigeria On The Verge Of A Break up-Oyedepo

Speaking recently on the spate of bombings and attacks in the country, GO of the Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo said that Nigeria is on the verge of a break up.

"I hope that we are willing to find solution to it. I would be the last person in this world to believe that government has not discovered those who are behind Boko Haram. Otherwise, we don’t have any intelligence service in our country. Are they sacred cows that cannot be brought to book? Until we cut the source of their supplies and get those who are involved, we cannot stop them. But the danger is this, and I must say it here, we are at the verge of a break up. That is the truth. It’s unfortunate. The Nigerian nation is too intelligent to claim not to have discovered those who are behind this. So, I really believe it’s all in the hands of the authorities to decide whether they want to confront the issue headlong or to keep watching it until Nigeria breaks up......

All that the church can do is to pray. The church is not in power, it has no political power. And when invited, we give advice, when required or called upon. You can’t call someone and say can I advise you?" - Bishop David Oyedepo

Gen. Buhari Releases Statement On Today's Attack, Says It Was An Assassination Attempt

General Buhari has released a statement on today's attack on his convoy in Kaduna, describing it as a clear assassination attempt. Find the statement he signed himself below....

"I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today along Ali Akilu Road, Kawo – Kaduna about 2:30pm on my way to Daura. The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car but was blocked by my escort vehicle. We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly denoted the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy. Continue...

Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle I saw many dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder. Thank God for His mercy, I came out unhurt but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries – they have been treated in hospital and discharged.

Signed:
General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) GCFR”

Tanker Catches Fire At Kano Airport

Fire service officials averted what could have been a tragedy at the Aminu Kano International Airport last night after a fuel tanker feeding a Turkish airlines aircraft caught fire. The tanker was however burnt to ashes while the aircraft, an Airbus 340, which was to airlift passengers from Kano to Istanbul, was partly damaged.

The flight was subsequently cancelled with the passengers, most of whom had arrived the airport, disappointed. Garba Shehu, the Media Consultant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was travelling with his family, told PREMIUM TIMES the aircraft was saved from being completely burnt following a quick decision by officials to hurriedly tow it away from the burning truck.

Mr. Shehu said: “The Airbus 340 aircraft which had the burning truck under its wings made a miraculous escape following a decision to tow it away from the fire just in time before the fuel-laden tanker burst into a towering flame. The flight taking my family and I, among many other passengers to Istanbul from Kano was cancelled a short while ago following indications that the aircraft, even though not destroyed, was partly damaged on its wing.  Fire engines at the airport emptied their contents without any serious impact on the raging fire, which burnt without let until it had consumed the oil tanker.”

PremiumTimes reports that officials of the airport and other aviation authorities could not be reached this morning. Officials of Turkish Airlines could also not be reached as at the time of this report.

Man Caught Defiling Two Year-Old in Ebonyi State

A 30-year old man, Mr. Ama Inya-Okoro from Afikpo North Local Government area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by police for defiling a two-year-old girl, Favour.

SunNews reports that the suspect was alleged to have committed the shameful act when the victim returned from school and was sleeping at the corridor of the house when the suspect, who also lives in the same compound allegedly pounced on her and committed the crime.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Chris Anyanwu an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who confirmed the incident said the suspect was arrested on July 14, 2014 at the scene of the crime when the members of the family alerted the police. He said that the girl had been taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment while the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution, lamenting high rate of rape and defilement in the state. According to Anyanwu: “On Monday 14th July, 2014, one Ama Inya-Okoro, 30-year old man from Ubeyi development centre in Unwana, in Afikpo Council area, was arrested for defiling little girl, Favour. The girl has been taken to hospital for treatment by his father Mr. Ude, Ebeke.

The suspect confessed to the crime and will be charged to court for prosecution.  This is another disturbing trend, the issue of rape, defilement and sex related offences. I don’t know why we have regular occurrence in the state. The people should not leave their children especially, female ones without close watch. Just like in this case, the girl was sleeping but nobody was there with her when the suspect took the advantage and had access to the girl. So, parents should be careful and monitor their girls and ensure that they don’t send them on errand alone to avoid such cases of rape. I urge the people to always ensure that they raise alarm whenever they see such act and report it to the nearest police station” he said. In an interview with Crime Watch, Ama Inya-Okoro admitted to have committed the crime but blamed it on evil urge for sex.

According to him:  “What happened was that I went to look for job as laborer on the fateful day but could not get any job and I returned home. As I was washing my cloth I saw the girl laying down sleeping wearing only pant, I rushed and carried her and have sex with her. It was ‘conji’ that caused it and I don’t have money to go for mature girls.”

The father of the girl Mr. Ude Ebeke said that he was at the church when the incident happened. A neighour called to inform me home and I rushed home to found my two years old girl was defiled by a nieghour, Ama Okoro.  On Monday July14, 2014, I was in the church when a woman came and called me and told me to go home, I quickly rushed to my house, I didn’t see anybody, I ran to our village square and  saw group of people there gathered. It was there I saw my daughter and one of the leaders of age grade who first arrested the man and brought him to the village square.   It was there that I was told that one Ama Inya Okoro raped and defiled my two year-old girl. So, I wanted to call police but they told me that they had already contacted police and as I was there police came and took all of us including the suspect to the police station where I made a statement. The mother traveled that day and the girl went to school before I left home.

My sister will tell more on what happened because I was in the church,” he said. The person who was with the girl when the incident happened, Miss Stella Egwu said that she was cooking in the kitchen while the victim was sleeping at the corridor when a woman alerted her. “I was in my place cooking when the little girl came back from school and after some time she went and slept at the corridor. As I was cooking in the kitchen I heard voice calling us to come and see the man that was raping the little girl, I came out and saw the man standing with the girl, sperm in her private. As we were talking people gathered and took the suspect to the village square where they called police” she explained.

A shocking new video filmed on a street in Magaluf has emerged showing 'British tourist' having sex in broad daylight between two parked cars. Mother Fights Daughter Over Boyfriend in Delta State

A 42-year- old housewife in Asaba, Delta State, simply identified as Monica (surname withheld) on Sunday threw caution to the wind when she engaged her 17 year-old daughter in a fight for allegedly snatching her boyfriend.

Leadership reports that their fight drew attention as a crowd gathered to watch them on a popular busy road around St. Brigid’s Girls College, Asaba, Sunday afternoon. The mother was alleged to have snatched the daughter’s boyfriend, who works in one of the oil companies in Warri.

The daughter became very furious when she heard that her boyfriend was caught pants down with her mother in an hotel in the state. The trouble between the mother and her daughter became aggravated when the lover boy began to act in a strange manner towards the girl. During the public fight, the daughter was said to have called the mother a shameless woman and a prostitute, who drove the father out of the house with her unbridled quest for sex.

Speaking to the Leadership correspondent at the scene, a relation of the woman, who did not want her name in the print, blamed the situation on her sister, whom she said disappointed women folk, especially mothers.

14 Year Old And Boyfriend Hang Themselves After Finding Out She Was Pregnant

A teenage Russian girl and her lover both hanged themselves from the same rope in a tree after they discovered that she was pregnant.

DailyMail reports that Irina Korovina, 14, and her lover Anatoly Maslov, 22, died and were found hanging from the same rope from the same branch. Their hands were still wrapped around each other, as tactile in death as they were in life. Police said that with no suicide note they were still investigating the cause of death, but confirmed that the teenager was pregnant and, being under-age, the man would have faced an investigation if he was the father of the child. Police spokesman Malik Shcherbakov said

‘Looking at her social media postings it seems that at least up to shortly before her death she was happy, and one of the last postings was “Life is beautiful”.’ He added that they were looking to see whether the man had put pressure on the girl to commit suicide with him after noting that he had injuries which indicated he had at least attempted to slash his wrists before both of them died from hanging. There seems to have been some dispute over the parents' request that she have an abortion because of her age,’ Shcherbakov said.

The bodies were found hanging from trees in woodland next to Zmeevo village on the outskirts of the western Russian town of Tver after the pair had vanished, sparking a search by locals and police officers. The girl's mother said that they had discovered she was three months’ pregnant the same day, and that they had tried to stop her seeing her boyfriend because of the age difference. He had reportedly worked as a security guard at a local shopping centre.

US Intellingence Official Say MH17 Was Likely Shot Down By Mistake.

A senior US official has confirmed that the most likely explanation for the MH17 disaster is that it was shot down by mistake.

According to the Associated Press, the official said the US had no evidence that the Russian Government was directly involved with shooting the plane down, reports. He reiterated the US theory that the passenger jet was most likely brought down by a surface-to-air missile fired by pro-Russian revels in eastern Ukraine.

Oby Ezekwesili Recounts Abuja Airport 'Detension' in London

Former Minister of Education and a champion of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has narrated her ordeals in the hands of security operatives at the Abuja International Airport on Monday. Oby talked to the members of the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans, to whom she is a trustee on Tuesday, and she said:

“I arrived the airport yesterday (Monday) to travel to London on BA. First, after the luggage screening section, I moved to the Customs people, sitting right next to it and do a more thorough bag search. Rather than they handling my luggage as is the practice, there were three SSS men, who rudely took over before they could do so and ordered me to open my bag.

I was traveling light with just my hand luggage leather roll on and my computer bag. I placed the bag for them and one was already furiously frisking through it when the Customs advised that a woman be allowed to do it. She was allowed and she did it.  She finished, zipped up the luggage and they said I could proceed but I asked that the computer bag be also searched and they did.  I went on to do my checking and got my boarding pass and was swiftly done. I arrived the departure immigration desk at about 7.15am and presented my passport and forms.

The immigration worker did his processing and handed to the SSS official.  Usually, the entire process lasts no more than five  to 10 minutes on a passport. As a frequent traveller through our Lagos and Abuja airports,  I speak based on experience and evidence. Even on the same day, the process for those of the travellers that I witnessed did not last more than five minutes. But on Monday, it became, five, 10, 15 and 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 minutes for the departure desk processing for me, with no explanation given except ‘We act under instruction’.  At each point after 10 minutes of waiting, I asked the officer why my passport was taking so long and not being handed to me. His recurrent response was “We act under instruction”. I would go on and state that he owed me explanation on what was wrong since there seemed to be a different process from the regular and that he had no right to trample on my constitutional right to movement.
He would respond, ‘I am not doing this personally madam. I am simply acting based on instruction and you of all persons should understand that’. When it was 20 minutes into the process, and with BA announcing the final boarding call for the 8am flight, the officer walked out of the cubicle heading off. I followed him asking where he was going without giving back my passport nor an explanation on why it was being withheld. His nonchalant response was ‘just wait. I am trying to help you’.  It became evident that they withheld the passport to detain me at their departure desk in order to miss the flight.

That was when I tweeted @ 7.37am ‘@obyezeks: IS THIS A DEMOCRACY? I am being detained by the SSS @ Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport . The SSS has REFUSED to GIVE MY PASSPORT TO ME’. At 7.41am ‘@obyezeks: On my way to London this morning for my @BBCHARDtalk appearance billed for TOMORROW and the SSS has DETAINED me by WITHHOLDING my PASSPORT’.”

Men In Uniform Abduct Woman in Lagos

A four-man gang said to be kidnappers stormed Oshodi under bridge on Saturday, snatching a young woman at gunpoint. One of them was reported to have worn the uniform usually used by officials of the anti-robbery squad.

Punch reports that the victim was walking along with her mother when she was confronted by the men. It was said that the mother was threatened with a gun when she wanted to defend her daughter. The gang, who were said to have arrived at the Oshodi area around 2.30pm, whisked the woman away in a Honda Pilot jeep.

PUNCH Metro also learnt that the young woman struggled to avoid being abducted by snatching handcuffs from one of the abductors and smashing it on his head. The man, who was reported to be on a uniform with a scorpion logo at the back, corked his gun to disperse a crowd who wanted to help the woman. When their correspondent arrived at the scene of the incident at about 2.45pm, the victim’s mother was seen pacing up and down and shouting “egba mi, omo mi!” (Please help me, my daughter). The worried mother did not reply our correspondent’s enquiries as she ran after the vehicle.

One of the eyewitnesses, who craved anonymity, showed PUNCH Metro the picture he took while the car was zooming off, adding that the angry crowd hurled stones at it. He said: “The men were four, but only one of them came out to abduct the lady. She managed to grab the handcuffs from the man and hit him on the head. He did not let her go. He dragged her to a pole and punched her several times till she was helpless. As some of us wanted to rescue her, the man brought out a gun and threatened to shoot anybody that came near him. Even an Air Force official who approached the others in the vehicle was shunned.” Another eyewitness, who gave his name only as Johnson, said the gang might be cultists, adding that the woman might have stepped on their toes.
A man simply, identified as Ayo, however, said that the men were kidnappers. He said they would have killed the woman on the spot if they were cultists. “I cannot say they are policemen because the man in uniform has beard which is not allowed in armed forces. They must be kidnappers. They would have shot her dead if they were cult members,” he said.

Attempts to get a reaction from the Lagos State spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, proved abortive as calls made to her mobile phone rang out. She had also not replied to the text message sent to her phone as of the time of going to press.

Bodies Of MH17 Crash Victims Tossed Into Rubbish Trucks And Taken To Morgue Train After Three Days Laying in Field

Bodies of about 200 victims of the Malaysian Airlines flight that was shut down on Thursday July 17th were left in heat in fields for over three days before they were finally piled up in bags and tossed into rubbish trucks then transported to refrigerated train carriages where they are said to be decaying.

The train with the dead bodies, which observers says is stinking of decay, is stationed in the town of Torez where rebels who are in charge say they will let it leave this afternoon but didn't indicate where or whether the bodies would be handed over. There's an international outrage that the rebels are holding the bodies unnecessarily as families beg for their loved ones to be returned to them so they could bury them properly. The bizarre part is that Holland, who lost more citizens than any other country, isn't showing as much outrage as other countries like Britain that have threatened to seize Russian's billions. Bagged victims can be seen above lined up in front of a truck yesterday at the crash site, ready to be moved to the refrigerated trains

My Parents Initially Didn't Want Me To Marry Soyinka-Wife

Wife of Prof. Wole Soyinka, Folake Soyinka recently opened up on their love story in an interview with The News magazine where she revealed how she and the Nobel laureate met and her parents initial objection to their relationship.

"There were objections from everywhere except from my sisters and brother who were happy if I was. I also had the support of his siblings here. My parents along with most of my relatives objected, not because of anything, they just felt he was too famous and too accomplished. They worried about that. But within a few months after we were married, my parents had changed their mind and they loved him until they passed away. His close friends didn't have a problem with it but also everyone had an opinion.

Then came the Nobel Prize in 1986 and that derailed everything for a couple of years. More than a quarter of a century later, those opinions didn't count, we are still trudging along. I have enjoyed love because of him"

she said On how they met; "I knew he liked me from when I was in the University of Ife but I was young and he was so accomplished so I was kind of worried. After I left Ife and went to do my NYSC in Kaduna state, Dr Biodunjeyifo came to visit me and said Kongi (Prof Wole Soyinka) had been looking for me. After the service year, Dr Yomi Ogunbiyi who was at the Guardian got me a job there and one day, Wole stopped by.

Our courtship was interesting" she said She also revealed that the Nobel laureate, who turned 80 recently, is a great cook; "He cooks and he is quite good at it. He even cooked about two days ago. When the boys were really little, one day in California, he called all of us to the kitchen and said he wanted to have a family meeting. They were so young I don't even think they had any concept of what a family meeting was. He lined all three according to their heights and asked me to sit. He said he has something to tell us and he was only going to say it once. He whipped some cooking utensils, moved them around noisily in the pot, threw some up, caught them performed a few tricks and then told us to listen.

He said there were only three people in the world who can cook pasta like he does; one is dead, the other is in Silica, Italy and he is the third one and he is going to cook something that we have never eaten. He cooked pasta that day and we truly enjoyed it. True dramatist." she said.
