Health benefits of oranges

Immune system

Most citrus fruits have a good deal of vitamin C, and oranges have high levels even compared to their tangy brethren. Vitamin C protects cells by scavenging and neutralising free radicals. Free radicals may lead to chronic conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Not only may oranges help to reduce the risk of chronic conditions, but they may also boost a person’s immunity when dealing with everyday viruses and infections like the common cold.

How Hard Drugs Almost Ruined Our Lives

The testimonies by recovered drug addicts on how their addiction robbed them of several productive and healthy years have again brought to the fore the severity of drug abuse in Nigeria. Writes Martins Ifijeh
It was a time of mixed feelings as recovered drug addicts, who through their quest for ecstasy and intense excitement, delved into the use of hard drugs like cocaine, marijuana, heroine, as well as the habitual use of the 21st century addiction substances like tramadol and codeine.
For some, it was a feeling of regrets and sober reflection as several productive years have been lost due to drug life, while for others, it was a time for celebration since not every addict has the luxury of retracing his or her self back to living a normal life without any push from an induced substance.

Naira Sinks to N418/$

With speculative pressure on the parallel market refusing to abate, the naira continued to head south in the market yesterday, where it fell to a record N418 to the dollar.
The situation was largely attributed to the suspension of eight banks from the forex market since last week Tuesday, due to their inability to return the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Company dollar deposits to the Treasury Single Account (TSA) domiciled with the CBN.
The banks – First Bank of Nigeria (FirstBank) Limited, Diamond Bank Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, Skye Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, Keystone Bank Limited, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited, and Heritage Bank Limited – were yet to remit a total of $1.804 billion NNPC/NLNG funds to the TSA as of yesterday.
