Pastor Oyakilome's Wife Files For Divorce In London Court

According to The Cable, the dissolution of the marriage between Christ Embassy Church founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and his wife, Rev. Anita Odegwa Oyakhilome, has entered the final phase.

The wife is seeking divorce on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery”. She outlined several allegations against the pastor which cannot publish for legal reasons. The divorce case, with Suit No FD14D01650, was filed on April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK, on Anita’s behalf by Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, a full-service law firm with expertise in commercial law and a strong consumer focus in family, wills and estate, personal injury law and medical negligence.

Efforts to reconcile the popular couple, whose church is one of the biggest denominations in Nigeria and has branches all over world, have failed. They have two teenage daughters, Sharon and Charlyn." Continue...

Oyakhilome is the president of Believers’ Love World Inc, the registered name of the Christian ministry, while his wife is the vice-president. The pastor, according to an elder of the church, has denied allegations of adultery and believes his wife is being influenced by “bad friends” who are intent on destroying their home. While Anita believes she has been relegated in the scheme of things in the church, her husband has reportedly accused her of trying to usurp power and authority above her seniors in the ministry. Sources told TheCable that the pastor had been making efforts to avoid divorce in the hope that the wife would eventually have a change of mind.

However, the decree nissi was served on the charismatic pastor in his hotel room during a recent visit to the UK. Decree nissi, in legal terms, is like a yellow card in a football match which is a precursor to a red card (“decree absolute”) if no new evidence is provided to stall proceedings. Church insiders said Oyakhilome had been hoping for rapprochement, but he was left with no option than to receive the papers when the lawyers cornered him at his hotel in London. The decree absolute, which will effectively end the marriage, is expected to be issued soon while terms of the divorce will be worked out by the lawyers on both sides.

‘‘According to Mr. Ahmad Salkida, Boko Haram has up to 50,000 people in their camps, most of them are sad and willing to die–as suicide bombers. If we’re not mindful our selfishness in not standing up now will consume us all. For these reasons and others, our advocacy must continue; we must continue telling the truth and demanding for it to be told,’’ the BBOG said.

“We must continue telling the truth and demanding for it to be told,’’ the group added. It called on the federal government to double its effort in tackling terrorism before it gets out of hands and plunge the country into unprecedented famine. The group also raised the alarm that Nigeria stands the risk of facing food scarcity, especially beans, which Chibok is the highest producer in the country and called for urgent measures to avert the imminent danger.

Ebola:How Infected Diplomat Under Survillance In Lagos Escaped To Portharcourt

A member of staff of ECOWAS on the team that received the late   Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American diplomat, who died of Ebola   in Lagos, made a trip to Port Harcourt where he checked into a hotel and met with Dr. Iyke  Enemuo.

The ECOWAS official whose name was also not given by Chukwu, was said to have had contact with the index case in Nigeria (Patrick Sawyer). He was placed under surveillance in Lagos but he escaped to Port Harcourt   where he checked into a hotel and contacted Enemuo for treatment.

The official recovered from the ailment and returned to Lagos. Health workers were said to have tested him when he allegedly came for a clearance certificate and gave him a clean bill of health. But the Rivers State Government said

“about 100 contacts from a hotel, patients of Dr. Enemuo and patients of the hospital where   Enemuo was treated until his demise have been identified and restricted.’’ “About a week after his departure, Enemuo took ill and was rushed to a hospital where he presented with symptoms of fever, diarrhea and vomiting. In the course of treatment, the managing physician became suspicious and took samples for investigation.

A few days after,  Enemuo died on August 22, 2014. His body was deposited in a mortuary in Port Harcourt.Enemuo’s widow, who is also a medical doctor and who cared for him during his illness, has taken ill. She is being quarantined.A few hours ago, results of the test carried out on samples taken from Dr. Enemuo came back and was positive of EVD.” A resident of Port Harcourt, said in her Facebook post, that before he took ill on Tuesday, “operated on a woman on Monday presumably after treating the diplomat.” “It’s quite a calamity unfolding in Port Harcourt. Unfortunately, the city’s   health facilities are not quite ready to contain Ebola at the moment,He (Enemuo) fell ill next day Tuesday and died last Friday. No one knew about the hotel angle which was a very big risk he took…and unethical thing to do.He was ill for three days and then started vomiting blood.

He was first rushed to one hospital where he was rejected and then taken to Good Heart Hospital whose owner is a Cardiologist and a consultant physician with the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital . He died there.  “The doctor that died practises in East West Road, Rumuokoro…Sam Steel clinic. The wife, also a doctor, has a three-month-old baby.As it is, there may have been well over 200 contacts of this devilish diplomat who lured his young doctor friend to treat him secretly and went back to Lagos. We have to look at the health workers in the Good Heart Hospital, Sam Steel Clinic, the members of staff of the hotel and its guests, those who travelled with the diplomat in the same vehicle(s) or aircraft from Lagos to Port Harcourt, the late doctor’s family members. The list goes on and on.”“My own take is what is with the foolishness of people who suspect they have Ebola not wanting to subject themselves to straight testing. Don’t they know quick detection could save their lives and those of others?

” A member of the Emergency Operation Centre for Ebola in Lagos, Prof. Oyewale Tomori said  “Initially many people who came into contact with Sawyer were not forthcoming with the truth. It was difficult to trace some contacts who did not leave any address. They could not trace the ECOWAS diplomat for days. Surveillance is the duty of everyone. And we must follow international guidelines and regulation. If we take your temperature and say we will be back tomorrow by 8am to take another, we expect that you should cooperate, but that was not the case. “Some even travelled, and their people were also not ready to disclose where they went. Some even denied the degree of contact that they had with Sawyer.”

Federal Government Advises Ebola Survivors To Avoid Sex For 7 Weeks

The Federal Ministry of Health has advised men who were treated and discharged of Ebola virus to avoid sexual intercourse for at least seven weeks.

Dr Bridget Okoeguale, Director, Department of Public Health, gave the advice during interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Okoeguale said this was in line with protocols issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“There are many literatures that say that after men are infected, when the virus is not found in the blood, it tends to stay in the semen for about seven weeks to three months.

“What we did according to the WHO protocol is that we made sure that when the men are discharged they are given enough condoms, if they cannot abstain for that period.

“We advise them to abstain from sex but where they cannot abstain, they are provided condoms and after the (abstinence) period, we double test to make sure they are free’’, she said.

On the treatment of Ebola patients, Okoeguale said no drugs or vaccinations were given to them, adding that health authorities had complied with WHO treatment protocol.

Okoeguale said everybody had his/her own body reaction, “so our own is to help build their immunity, give them fluid to replace lost fluid through vomiting and diarrhoea.’’ She explained that the patients were also placed on electrolyte by intravenous fluid to avoid dehydration, adding that those who were anaemic had blood transfusion. “That is the supportive care that has helped us to be able to discharge more than five people’’, Okoeguale said.

The director also advised the general public to avoid crowded social gathering. “ We are not advising people not to go to club or bar but if you have to just remember that you must keep your hands clean, avoid contact with as many people as possible.’’ She urged Nigerians not to consider the disease as a death sentence and that recent cases had shown survival rates for patients were high with early detection and treatment.

President Jonathan Condemns Stigmatization Of Nigerians Over Ebola

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Wednesday in Abuja condemned the stigmatization of Nigerians by some countries over recent cases of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.
Speaking at a meeting with Mr. David Navarro, a Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, President Jonathan particularly denounced discriminatory actions such as that which forced Nigeria’s team to the Youth Olympics in China to abandon its participation. Noting that there was no justification for such stigmatization of Nigerians since the Ebola Virus Disease had been effectively  contained in the country and never attained epidemic levels, the President called for the cessation of discriminatory actions against Nigerians over the virus and urged the UN Secretary General, Mr.  Ban Ki Moon  to support the call.

Responding to the Secretary General’s commendation of Nigeria’s management of the threat of Ebola, President Jonathan praised the Federal Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Government and all Nigerians for the success achieved so far in containing the virus and avoiding a national epidemic. “All hands have been on deck to contain the virus here. I commend my team and the Lagos State Government. We have been able to set politics aside and work in unison to deal with a national threat.

“All other Nigerians have played a part too by complying with the directives and advice we have issued to stop the virus from spreading any further. The success we have had is a testimony to what we can achieve as people if we set aside our differences and work together,” he told Mr. Navarro.

The President assured the Special Envoy that in spite of the seeming  success of  its containment measures, the Federal Government and its agencies will remain vigilant to guard against further cases of Ebola in the country. “We will continue to monitor the situation and we will also support other affected African countries as much as we can because we cannot be completely safe from the virus as long as it continues to ravage some countries in our sub-region and continent.

We will continue to work with the international community to curb the outbreak in other countries,” President Jonathan pledged. Mr. Navarro who  had visited Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the countries worst hit by Ebola before coming to Nigeria, told the President that he had come, on the instruction of the UN Secretary-General, to applaud Nigeria’s successful containment of the virus. “The Secretary-General asked me to come here too, not because you have an Ebola problem, but because you have tackled it in an exemplary fashion. “Your personal leadership on the matter has been key. There may still be some work to be done before the virus is completely cleared out from here, but other countries can learn from your fine example,” Mr. Navarro told the President.

How Security Guard, 2 Others Stole N23m Jewellery And Eventually Sold It For N1m

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, have arrested three persons alleged to have burgled a store in Ikeja area of Lagos last December and carted away gold jewellery worth N23 million and over N100,000 cash.

One of the suspects was discovered to be a private guard to the owner of the shop, one Mrs Ekong.

Preliminary investigation, according to the operatives, showed that the suspected mastermind, Moses Obande, allegedly applied as a guard with a fake house address and unregistered SIM card which made it difficult for him to be trailed after the crime. It was also revealed that Obande was once charged for kidnap and murder. He was alleged to have kidnapped an unnamed woman alongside members of a kidnap syndicate some years ago in Sagamu area of Ogun State, collected ransom and later murdered the victim.

He was said to have worked for Mrs Ekong between October and December last year. Along the line, he reportedly contacted two other guards, Ogbulaja Ogaba and Izechukwu Ezeobi, to assist him in breaking into the jewellery store located on Unity Road, off Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way. According to the 32-year- old father of two who hails from Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, “I found it difficult to secure a job because I am a secondary school drop-out.

So, I decided to use a fake address to apply for security job last October, where I was paid N17,000 per month. But the money was not enough to fend for my wife and two children. “At a point, a devilish thought came into my mind to burgle my boss’ shop. I contacted two of my friends to assist and we went to buy chemicals which we poured on the wall.

We left with the intention of coming back at midnight. By then the portion we poured the chemical would have weakened, thereby allowing us easy passage. “But I did not wait for them to arrive before I broke into the shop. I went alone for two reasons: to get the largest share of the loot and to prevent a situation whereby their movement would attract people. “I also decided to do it alone because I had earlier carried out similar burglary where I was a guard.

I made away with gold chains and a cash of N108,000. I kept the cash to myself and gave 35 neck chains (gold) to Ogaba while I took the remaining to Yaba market where I sold them for N1,105,000. “The original price was more than that. The person that bought it from me cheated me by cutting off the price tags on them. Some of them had price tags between N250,000 and N350,000. The least was N75,000. “Ogaba told me he sold the 35 pieces I gave to him for N80,000 to one Jubril Garba. But I know he lied. But I did not argue with him. I told him that was his share. “After the sales, I immediately moved my family to Benue State. I opened a hair dressing saloon for my wife and invested the rest in plank business.

When my wife asked where I got the money from, I told her I was paid off at my place of work. “Immediately, I destroyed the unregistered SIM card my boss was used to and started life afresh with a promise never to delve into crime again.” I paid my siblings’ WAEC fees with the proceeds However, eight months after the crime was committed, Obande was arrested in his home town.

His arrest followed the confessional statement of one of his alleged partners in crime, Ogbulaja Ogaba. Ogaba said: “I only got N80,000 but did not partake in the operation. Obande initially invited me to assist him burgle the gold supermarket. “On the day in question, December 22, 2013, he later called me to meet him in a hotel where he gave me 35 pieces of jewellery to sell. I was yet to finish selling it when he called me on the phone that he was leaving Lagos for his home town. “When I asked him about the money with me , he said I should have fun with it. I ended up using it to pay for my siblings West Africa Examinations Council ,WAEC examination fees.”

On his part, 36-year-old Izuchukwu Ezeobi also claimed not to have joined Obande in the operation but said: “My job was just to provide a buyer. I did not even collect a kobo at the end.” The suspects, according to the Police, would be charged to court soon.

Driver Who Escaped With Employer's 6.5 Million Naira Car Arrested

26 year old Kingsley Nwabueze has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigative Department for stealing and absconding with his boss's Infinity FX 35 SUV valued at N6.5 million, less than three months after he was employed. Continue...
According to reports by Tribune, on April 10th this year, Kingsley drove his boss, Abosede Olubiyi, in her newly acquired Infinity FX 35 SUV to an appointment in Yaba, Lagos. When they got to their destination, the woman told Kingsley to find a place to park the car as there was no parking space in front of the building they were going to. The lady came down from the car and went for her appointment and that was the last time she saw Kingsley and her car.

The matter was immediately reported to the Lagos State Police command. In the course of their investigation, the police arrested a friend of Kingsley who they used as a bait to get him out of his hideout.

The friend cooperated with the police and Nwabueze was traced to Imo State.

After some persuasion from his friend who lied to him that he had a very lucrative business for him, Kingsley appeared in Port Harcourt, where he was arrested. Kingsley has since confessed to stealing his boss's car, saying that he had already put it up for sale at an Autoshop in Aba, Abia state.

What Happened To N1.9b 'Ebola Fund'?

During his press conference yesterday, Prof. Chukwu, denied the money was for the management of the virus, saying it was for the ministry of health and will be used to buy cars and other things "The N1.9billion approved by the president was for the federal ministry of health. It is not for Ebola fund. It will be used to procure more vehicles for working which have been ordered. It would be used to procure more drugs that have been ordered... and other items.

"In the case of Lagos state, after the president met commissioners of health, the president then asked the minister of health to discuss with the technical people and money has been approved for Lagos state," the minister said.

Well, that's totally contrary to the announcement Presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati made on August 8th "President Jonathan also approved a Special Intervention Plan and the immediate release of N1. 9 billion for its implementation, to further strengthen on-going steps to contain the virus such as the establishment of additional isolation centres, case management, contact tracing, deployment of additional personnel, screening at borders, and the procurement of required items and facilities." Ebola: Liberia Imposes Curfew

As countries in West Africa battle hard to curtail the spread of the deadly Ebola virus; Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has imposed a night-time curfew from tonight (Wednesday) and announced that two affected neighbourhoods have also been quarantined in effort to curb the spread.

“Commencing Wednesday, August 20 there will be a curfew from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am (2100 to 0600 GMT),” she said in a radio address late Tuesday night. “All entertainment centres are to be closed. All video centres are to be closed at 6:00 pm,” Sirleaf ordered. She also provided reasons why her country has not made huge success in the war against the Ebola virus: “We have been unable to control the spread due to continued denials, cultural burying practices, disregard for the advice of health workers and disrespect for the warnings by the government,” she lamented

"Dora Akunyili Lived Beyond Doctors Prediction"_ Husband

Dr. Chike Akunyili, the husband of the late former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili, said on Tuesday that his deceased wife lived beyond the time doctors gave her.

Speaking at the requiem mass organised in memory of the deceased in Abuja, the late former minister’s widower said although doctors told his late wife that she had seven months to live in 2012 when she was diagnosed, she waived it as a pronouncement of men and not of God. “When I told her doctors said she would not live for more than seven months, she said doctors have spoken but God has not spoken and then she lived for another two years and three months,” Chike said.

He also recalled how his wife displayed a rare sense of patriotism when she returned her American passport as a citizen of US in order for her to keep her Nigerian diplomatic passport. And how she kept holding water bowl for him to wash his hands and whenever he reminded her that she was a professor, she kept saying:

“I am Chike’s wife first before becoming a professor.” Describing her as an elephant, the widower said time would never be enough to talk about his late wife who he fondly referred to as Dorothy.

At the mass, PUNCH reports that President Goodluck Jonathan paid tribute to the late Akunyili, saying he and other public office holders were praying that their children would be respected like the deceased. The President urged Akunyili’s children to be happy because their late mother’s works had given them an identity that neither silver nor gold could give. He said:

“Your mother was a very dynamic woman because her works and identity have given you what silver and gold cannot give you. Yes, it might not translate to monetary rewards, but many will respect and want to assist you as her children because of her.   We pray that those of us serving now, whether President, Vice President, or others, when we die, people will respect our children because of our deeds like Dora. So you have to thank God for that.

Dora was a role model, her dressing represented the Nigerian woman, her love, character; she is a lady that will hardly leave our memory.  Dora was more known as DG NAFDAC more than when she served as a minister. Most Nigerians knew Dora because of her service.   As a minister, Dora was good. We were very happy to work with her. She was diligent, intelligent, very forthright, and extremely patriotic and above all she was extremely brave and could say anything, right or wrong, and did not care whose ox is gored. That was Dora for you.

She sought to protect the lives of Nigerians as DG of NAFDAC and never compromised as regards those who trafficked fake drugs.  One thing that endeared her to me is that, probably I’m one President that has worked with so many women. Atimes you noticed rivalry amongst women but with her you, never noticed any rivalry. She was one of the few Nigerians that have made the whole country proud. I condole you all,” he added.

Nigeria Successfully Contains Ebola, Has Only One Case Left- Health Minister

Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said today that Nigeria has been able to reduce the number of Ebola cases to just one.

At a press briefing held today August 26th in Abuja, Prof. Onyebuchi said only one patient out of the 13 confirmed cases in Nigeria is still at the Isolation center. He said five of those infected died while seven have successfully recovered and have been discharged. He also said two of the nurses who attended to Patrick Sawyer at the First Consultant hospital were discharged yesterday. Find the minister's statement

"Of these thirteen, five, including the index case unfortunately did not survive the disease and are now late.

However, seven of the infected persons were successfully managed at the Isolation ward in Lagos and have been discharged home.

"Two of treated patients, a male doctor and a female nurse were discharged yesterday evening, 25th August, 2014 having satisfied the criteria for discharge.

"I wish to reassure Nigerians and indeed the global community that the Government shall remain vigilant and will not relent as Government continues to work with her partners to ensure that the disease is kept out of the country. Thank you.
