BREAKING: First Case Of Ebola Diagnosed In The United States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials have confirmed the first case of Ebola to be diagnosed in the United States. Just this morning, Zachary Thompson, the director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services, had said that the Dallas County was ready for Ebola while talking about the patient who was admitted yesterday on suspicion of the virus.

"This is not Africa. We have a great infrastructure to deal with an outbreak." Yesterday, news broke that an unidentified patient who had recently returned from the West Africa area was being isolated on suspicion of the deadly virus at a Dallas, Texas hospital. The tests for Ebola were called for based on the patient's symptoms and travel history, and the results have come back positive.

The patient is said to have been infected in Liberia but didn’t display any symptoms until he returned to Dallas, Texas. The patient was admitted at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas which has now sent out a press release which reads.. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital had admitted a patient Monday into strict isolation “based on the patient’s symptoms and recent travel history,”

“The hospital is following all Centers for Disease Control and Texas Department of Heath recommendations to ensure the safety of patients, hospital staff, volunteers, physicians and visitors.” For those of my readers who live in Dallas, do NOT be alarmed. The CDC has this to say. Local public health officials have begun identifying close contacts of the person for further daily monitoring for 21 days after exposure. The ill person did not exhibit symptoms of Ebola during the flights from West Africa and CDC does not recommend that people on the same commercial airline flights undergo monitoring, as Ebola is only contagious if the person is experiencing active symptoms.

The person reported developing symptoms several days after the return flight. CDC recognizes that even a single case of Ebola diagnosed in the United States raises concerns. Knowing the possibility exists, medical and public health professionals across the country have been preparing to respond. CDC and public health officials in Texas are taking precautions to identify people who have had close personal contact with the ill person and health care professionals have been reminded to use meticulous infection control at all times.

We know how to stop Ebola’s further spread: thorough case finding, isolation of ill people, contacting people exposed to the ill person, and further isolation of contacts if they develop symptoms.

EBOLA GONE WORSE: One Million People Quarantined In Sierra Leone

Frantic efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak have led Sierra Leone to order the quarantine of three districts and 12 tribal chiefdoms.

The latest move will effectively seal off around 1.2 million people who reside in the affected areas, NDTV reports.
President Ernest Bai Koroma reportedly announced on television yesterday, September 24, 2014 that the northern districts of Port Loko and Bombali were to be closed off along with the southern district of Moyamba. Koroma added:

"The isolation of districts and chiefdoms will definitely pose great difficulty but the lives of everyone and the survival of our country takes precedence over these difficulties”. “These are trying moments for everyone in the country." Sierra Leone has already quarantined the eastern districts ofKenema and Kailahun and just recently ordered a 3-day lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of the disease. Ebola has claimed over 2800 lives in West Africa with Sierra Leone accounting for a bulk of the casualties.

I Feel Sad For Nigeria When I Listen To Certain Statements-Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said that terrorism and kidnapping were still major national challenges because Nigerians had not united against them as they did against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Jonathan made the statement at an inter-denominational church service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to mark the country’s 54th Independence Anniversary coming up on Wednesday.
President Goodluck Jonathan speaking at the 54th Independence Anniversary Interdenominational Church Service at the National Christian Center, Abuja On Sunday He said the country was able to fight and defeat the deadly Ebola disease because Nigerians united against the virus irrespective of political persuasion, religion or ethnic origin. The president appealed for unity among Nigerians, noting that there was no problem or challenge that could withstand the force of a united Nigeria.

“Take the case of Ebola for example; this is a good example all Nigerians must learn from. “When Patrick Sawyer brought Ebola to Nigeria, it was in Lagos that this incidence happened and in terms of politics, Lagos is an opposition party state but the central government is the ruling party.

“From Lagos Ebola moved to Rivers State, also opposition party state. “But because all Nigerians fought Ebola irrespective of political persuasion, irrespective of religion, irrespective of ethnicity, as individuals we defeated the disease,’’ he said.
Jonathan commended the military and other security services for the successes they had recorded in the counter-insurgency operations despite internal sabotage. He noted that what the security agencies needed was the support and encouragement of all Nigerians to rid the country of terrorists and other enemies of the Nigerian state. The president frowned at inflammatory statements and utterances of some politicians and called for restraint in the interest the country.

“We will not require people to come from heaven or other countries to solve our problems. What we require from our brothers and sisters is to encourage our military because it is not easy. “When people are sleeping in their houses at night, they are busy fighting. Bullets are not badminton rackets or something. “When I listen to some statements made by some people who call themselves leaders, I feel sad for the country.

“We must believe that we do not have any other country outside of Nigeria,’’ he said. In his sermon, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oristejafor, said that most of the challenges confronting the country were self-inflicted. He noted that corruption and terrorism, which he described as `the greatest’ problems facing the country were created by greedy politicians and extreme religious ideologists.

According to him, corruption is fed by greed, which in turn is rooted in poverty mentality. He defined poverty mentality as the thinking that what one had was not enough. Oristejafor differed with the school of thought that terrorism was caused by poverty. According to him, terrorism is caused by extreme religious ideology. Oristejafor warned trouble-makers to either repent and retrace their steps or be ready to face God’s judgment.

Three Boko Haram Members Sentenced To 25 Years Each

The Federal High Court in Lagos today Tuesday September 30th sentenced 3 Boko Haram members to 25 years imprisonment each, The Nation reports.

However, journalists were not allowed to cover the judgment. Only lawyers in the prosecution and defence teams were allowed in court.

A source, who witnessed the verdict, but craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told reporters that the fourth defendant was acquitted. The court, on December 3 last year, barred journalists from covering the trial of 17 suspected members of the sect.

Justice Ibrahim Buba made the order following an application by the Lagos State Attorney-General and prosecuting counsel, Mr. Ade Ipaye. Men of the Department of Security Services (DSS) had prevented journalists from covering the suspects’ arraignment last November 27.

The accused are – Ali Mohammed, Adamu Karumi, Ibrahim Usman, Bala Haruna, Idris Ali, Mohammed Murtala, Kadiri Mohammed, Mustapha Daura, Abba Duguri, Sanni Adamu, Danjuma Yahaya, Musa Audu, Mati Daura, Farouk Haruna, Abdullahi Azeez, Ibrahim Bukar and Zula Diani. The Attorney-General, it was learnt, had entered a nolle prosequi (Latin for “do not prosecute”) in respect of two of the defendants, who were subsequently discharged. Later, another 11 were also discharged in the course of the trial following another nolle prosequi by the prosecution. Only four – the first to fourth defendants – went through a full trial.

The suspects were first charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and being members of a proscribed organisation. They allegedly committed the offences on March 21 last year, at Plot 5, Road 69, Lekki Phase I Housing Estate, and at No. 24, Oyegbeni St., Ijora-Oloye, Apapa-Iganmu, Lagos. They were alleged to have in their possession three packets of explosive construction pipes, 15 detonators, and 11 AK47 rifles with 30 rounds of live ammunitions.

I don't Want To Live Up To 100 Years-Pastor E. A. Adeboye

While speaking at the 60th birthday celebration service for Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners chapel over the weekend, the GO of Redeemed Church, pastor E.A Adeboye said he doesn't want to live up to 100 years

"When I marked 70 and people prayed that I would be up to 80, I said amen. When they said I would be up 90, I said well, amen. But when they said 100, I didn’t say amen. I didn't because I don’t know what offence I would have committed for God to keep me up to 100 in this sinful world when a crown of glory is awaiting me in heaven. I wouldn’t mind to be 92 though, so that I will be alive to preach when Bishop Oyedepo is 80. But to live up to 100, I don’t know about that" he said  ?

Abortion is Ungodly And Unbiblical - Pastor Enoch Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says abortion is ungodly and unbiblical.

He made his position known via his Special Assistant on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, at the monthly prayer and thanksgiving service organised for pregnant women at the RCCG National Headquarters in Ebutte-Metta, Lagos.

"You can prevent pregnancy but once the egg and the sperm meet and is formed, anything that suggests that it should be terminated is against God’s word. The option of abortion is an option preferred by medical professionals but as Christians, we believe in miracles and that God is able to take away every problems. There is nothing God cannot do even if the life of the woman is at stake; pray for a divine intervention and God who created the universe knows what to do in any situation we find ourselves as we look up to him in faith.” pastor Odesola said on behalf of pastor Adeboye So wait, if the life of the woman is at stake, she shouldn't abort but pray for divine intervention? I'm totally against abortion, but I also think it's okay to go ahead if you're advised by your doctor to terminate it if your life is at stake.

There is Really Nothing To Be Celebrated On Independence Day-Tinubu

Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria has achieved little or nothing in this present administration, so there shouldn’t be any elaborate celebration to say the least tomorrow.

Here is a press statement released yesterday by him as Nigeria gets set to celebrate her 54th independence. It’s a long read tho, but as usual you know where he is coming from and going to. Continue after the cut.

“We commemorate this Independence Day because the nation has survived despite its many challenges. We dare not celebrate because the nation has not flourished as it should. 54 years our national trek began with hope and promise, peace and unity.

“Today, the nation staggers beneath the weight of trouble stacked upon problem multiplied by hardship. Peace and unity seem to have yielded the moment to violence and discord. We exist as a political unit on a map but we do not prosper as brothers and sisters in one nation, under one flag and pursuant to one accord. We have lost our road and now seem to be on the road of the lost. I am proud to be a Nigerian and would not attach my life to any other nation but genuine patriotism should not induce blindness. We are burdened by too many resolvable challenges that remain unresolved,” he said. He noted that:

“This is not a time for fake cheers and elation at the present state of things just because the calendar has touch this day. We need to use this hour soberly by taking stock of the obstacles mounting before us and of the hard direction in which we seem to be heading. I fear this direction, if further taken, will lead us not home but to an appointment with failure and national destitution.

At their inception, every nation is a dynamic interplay of assets and liabilities, promises and threats, capabilities and contradictions. As time passes, the nation is supposed to move forward in mature progress so its assets, promise and capabilities increasingly outweigh their negative counterparts.

“In recent years, Nigeria has become victim to an opposite dynamic.

Nigeria currently is saddled with the reprobate leadership Awo, Zik, Sardauna and Tafawa Belewa feared. We have entered unchartered territory not so much because we are expanding the outer bounds of national progress. We traverse such ground because this government leads us into places where angles fear to tread and where sensible man should not go.

“Never has an elected government in Nigeria employed religion as a tool to divide the people, setting Nigerian brother against brother in a manner that allows this administration to function at the basest level of governance while seeking to establish a political domination that seeks no greater purpose than its self perpetuation. Our nation was supposed to advance, year by year, toward greater democracy. Instead, we rush into the pit of arbitrary, imperious rule that smacks of despotism.

“If we whitewash the reality of our existence by lying that all is well just because this is Independence Day, then we ignore the troubling signals at our collective peril.

The incessant attempts to stigmatize and physically intimidate a peaceful political opposition and the militarization of elections are features of a perverse democracy, a democracy run at gun-point and with a swift and eager trigger, Brazen assaults on the judiciary, the flippant and frequent violation of the constitution and the rule of law, and the elevation of corruption to making it a new and perhaps the strongest arm of government are the instruments that now shape our nation. These things are not the fare ofcelebration. They are the impetus for political reform and change.

“54 years is enough to have built upon a solid foundation. If we had embraced a few lessons from India and other countries in similar situations like ours, we would be far advanced from where we presently are. It is sad enough that we have not built well upon the foundation set by our nation’s founders. Sadder still is that those who currently lead us have even weakened and corrupted that once-sound, hopeful foundation.

“Under the Jonathan government, the vaunted Transformation Agenda is but an elaborate name for old-fashion pocket stuffing. They do not have a national blueprint or vision. They do have a blueprint and vision for excessive self enrichment. Their equation is simple. You work, they feast. You toil, they grow fat. You seek a decent wage; they pilfer the collective treasury to enjoy a king’s ransom.

”Meanwhile, national planning has been haphazard and people unfriendly. For most of our 54 years and for all of the past fifteen, honest men have been given scant opportunity to lead Nigeria. We have wandered from the path of economic empowerment for our youth and the mass of our people. Nigeria has become adept at creating economic refugees, brain-drain migrants, decimated institutions and the building of a venal ”Wallet Economy” benefiting only a handful.

“As if this cynically induced poverty is not sufficient hardship, this government compounds the public burden by sowing discord with the alacrity that a wise government would plant charity and accord. Rather than promote religious tolerance and harmonious living, this Government believes its electoral chances are enhanced by promoting ethnicism, internal divisions, religious suspicion and scapegoating. Successful nations are not built this way. Have we not learned the lesson that we paid the high price of civil war to learn.

“We emerged from painful civil war with the singular objective of establishing an equitable, tolerant society. We sought to unite all into one people with a sense of one nation. We would turn our diversity into one of greatest assets. Decades later, it seems the memory of that period has faded. Political figures of dubious quality dabble with forces they may not truly comprehend and have no chance of ultimately controlling.

“This supposedly democratic government struts the stage, using our diversity to further divide us. An asset is turned into a wedge separating friend from friend, neighbour from neighbour.

But I know that our diversity is a unique strength we can use to erase hunger, banish poverty, limit civil strife, build tolerance and enrich our civic education and awareness by learning so much from each other.

“While Nigeria’s current leaders failed to build upon the foundation provided them, there are some rays of hope. On this day, I commend the people of Lagos and other progressive states in the southwest and throughout Nigeria. You have tried your best to keep faith with the best practices and policies of those who founded this nation. Against strong odds and the strong arm of a reactionary federal government, you have improved the foundation then built upon it. If only what you have done could be replicated by the federal government.

”On the contrary, 16 years of PDP rule has been a period of diminishing return. The longer they rule, the lessbenefit the people derive. Nigeria now needs a ‘common sense revolution’, a revolution that calls forth a return to decency, probity, transparency of process and fairness in outcome. This is done not by subterfuge, divide and rule and turning Nigeria in a field of discord or a street of broken institutions. It is accomplished by honoring the principles of democratic good governance and economic justice. It is done by persuading the people they are better off as one instead of better off tearing at each other’s throats.

“Governance is about trust. And this government is not even trusted by itself. That is why it does nothing except feed itself. This is not the road for a better Nigeria. We must proceed from this 54th anniversary to embark on a common sense revolution that brings about progressive change for the benefit of most of our country men and women, our youth and the vulnerable among us.

“I speak here of a Common Sense revolution that promotes the well being and improve the lot of the average person, regardless of his or her ethnic, religious or regional affiliation. In this way, Nigeria will not only be unified in national purpose it will have recovered its better path. That will be an Independence Day we can and shouldcelebrate. Until then, we strive to keep from falling further.

“We dare not remain lost forever. I am positive that help is on the way. Nigerians should be prepared for change. We must rescue Nigeria from those set to cause it irreparable harm. The change I talk about is the only route to our deliverance from 16 years of the PDP locusts. Nigeria is ours to keep and its democracy is ours to save, the statement read.  ?

Anita Oyakhilome's Name And Picture Removed From Rhapsody Of Realities

Anita Oyakhilome has been excluded from the newly released October-2014 edition of Rhapsody of Realities, Christ Embassy's monthly devotional.

The devotional, which was started many years ago by the now estranged couple, usually had both their pictures and writings in the pages, but in this new 31-page edition, there's not one pic or article attributed to Pastor Anita, just pastor Chris. Also, the back cover of the magazine which usually had a picture of the couple now has only Pastor Chris on it. It's now strictly Pastor Chris...
Anita Oyakhilome used to be part of it...

Meanwhile a new single sister, Pastor Ms Yemisi Kudehinbu has been named the new Chief Executive officer of the Believers Loveworld, an arm of the church that produces the monthly devotional.

Election Will Be Tough In 2015, We Want To Take Over- Buhari

Ex-Military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari has predicted that next year’s general elections will be tough and urged all APC members to collect their voters’ card and hold on to them.

He called on Nigerians not to vote for treasury looters in 2015, saying provision of free amenities is possible. He rolled out the party’s package for Nigerians; improved infrastructure, water, electricity and improved education system for Nigerians, under a new government run by the APC. In Buhari’s words:

“The next five months will be very tough, because we want to take over the government, from Councillorship to Presidency. “Next election is going to be different and next year is going to be tough because APC is ready for change in Nigeria. We will stop corruption; no more will anybody put government money into private pockets.” Meanwhile, the All Progressives congress, APC, has said “Nigeria is terribly asleep and is having a serious nightmare,” and will continue to experience such as long as the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, remained at the helms of affairs. National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, who stated this at Lokoja Township Stadium, Kogi State, during the formal reception of Kogi PDP decampees into the party on Tuesday, said “PDP is giving Nigeria a bad dream.

” The former governor of Edo State, however, said there “is hope for Nigeria if Nigerians wake up fast and vote for APC which is becoming the fastest growing party in Nigeria, and has come to remedy the ills meted on the country.” Addressing the crowd, he said, “APC is growing so fast. Many of you know I have been here three times in the past and I tell you this is the greatest crowd I have seen. “The PDP is finished anyway. Have we forgotten the N20 billion? Have we forgotten the N225 million armoured tank? Can we forget the $9.3million? Can we forget Boko Haram? And, look at it here in Kogi State, look at the very stadium we are standing, where the government cannot fix its roofs. “But, I want to tell you that as soon as APC comes into power, we will change all these for the better.”

Meet Snake Boy Who Has Shed His Skin Every 41 Days Since He Was Born

Meet Indonesian teenager Ari Wibowo who sheds his skin like a snake every 41 days.     Ari has shed his skin every 41 days since he was born 16 years ago. He must soak his body in water every hour - night and day - and smear himself with lotion every three hours to prevent drying out.

Photographer Nurcholis Anhari Lubis, 35, has documented the little boy’s condition as part of an essay project and describes the boy's skin condition as ‘scaly like a snake about to shed his skin’. Mr Lubis told Daily Mail Australia:

‘It’s really sad because he was not born normally and has scaly skin all over his body, similar to being severely burnt, from the sole of his feet up to his head. If the boy doesn't moisturise or soak his skin in water, his body would shrivel and harden up like a sculpture and he won't be able to move. If he leaves it unattended for too long, he won’t be able to speak because the wrinkles inside his mouth would go hard and it would dry out all his blood in his body.'
Mr Lubis said Ari's family were told by doctors at the hospital where he was born that it did not have the resources to treat the condition, and asked them to take the infant away. He and his family now live by a routine of constant washing and dressing his skin with creams. Still, the boy is trying to live a normal life in his village. Mr Lubis continued: 'He eats normal food like everyone else and his favourite snacks are instant noodles and crackers. He had trouble making friends when he was younger and would often go and play with the other kids but most of the time, they would avoid him because he is different to everyone else.'  Ari is taking lessons, but is forced to study alone because of ignorance about his condition in the community. ‘No schools are willing to accept him because they fear his skin condition would be contagious to teachers and other students,' Mr Lubis said.  Ari also suffers prejudice because of superstitions in his village.

Mr Lubis said many people blame Ari's condition on a superstition that if a woman mistreats animals while she is pregnant then it will affect her unborn child. Some people believe Ari's mother ‘tortured a lizard’ she found in the family home when she was pregnant with Ari. Ari has trouble talking because of the condition and the vision in his right eye is impaired, while the left must be kept moist with constant drops.
