When Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender, she automatically became a voice and representative for the entire transgender — and even LGBT — community, whether she liked it or not. A woman in her position has the ability to stand up for this entire underrepresented group and really effect change. That's why her latest remarks that she’d like to be Ted Cruz’s "trans ambassador" if he makes it to the White House are a big slap in the face for the entire community.
“I like Ted Cruz,” Jenner said in an interview with The Advocate — a seemingly innocent phrase, if only she weren’t referring to a man who has been unwaveringly unsupportive of the transgender community. The Republican presidential hopeful said in an interview last year that the Obama administration’s support for trans students was “lunacy,” and that “the federal government is going after school districts, trying to force them to let boys shower with little girls.” And this year, Cruz further demonstrated his ignorance when he said that allowing a transgender student to use a faculty restroom instead of a student restroom was “inflicting” that student on the teachers.
And Cruz’s discriminatory beliefs aren’t limited to the LGBT community, either; the Texas senator’s views leave women in the dust, too. In fact, he has a 100% pro-life voting record, and has voted to defund Planned Parenthood 10 times during his time in the Senate.
And, even though Caitlyn acknowledged to The Advocate that Cruz is “probably one of the worst ones when it comes to trans issues,” apparently, that’s water under the bridge. The reality star has a history of causing tension with her conservative politics, and has been previouslycriticized for not properly representing the trans community — and she’s well aware that her views are controversial. “I get it. The Democrats are better when it comes to these types of social issues,” she said to The Advocate. “I understand that.” Even so, she’s firm in her support for the Republican party. “Number 1, if we don’t have a country, we don’t have trans issues,” she said. “We need jobs. We need a vibrant economy. I want every trans person to have a job.”
