According to a new report by Vanguard  a source close to the couple and was there when the romance started in 2008, and remained close to the now divorced couple, has revealed why the marriage crashed .

It is a story as told by an insider who knew the couple way back from New York, where Philips once lived, before moving to Texas, then to Atlanta and now Ghana. - “I think Ini Edo was badly in love. Philips was a charmer and, as a human being and deeply in love, she followed her heart. It is so sad that a woman blessed with such a good heart could be treated in such a hurtful manner. Most people may not know, but Ini Edo is a dedicated and totally committed spouse any man could hope to have. That’s why she endured all she did, for six years without letting the world know the pain she was going through in her marriage,”

“Most people do not know that Ini Edo gave up a lot of acting jobs to be with her husband in America and, unlike the widely peddled story that the actress was involved in romantic relationships with other men, for the six years that Ini was married to Philips, she never cheated on him. Ini Edo adored and loved Philips; she was very fond of him, cooked his meals personally, and was practically splitting her time between two continents, all in her efforts to be a good wife.

 “ There is no doubt that Ini was madly in love with her ex-husband. In a 2009 interview she had with my newspaper, The Diasporan Star in New York, she effusively declared her fidelity to Phillips and debunked all the stories of her liaisons with other men.

“I am usually at a loss when I read stories about my sexual relationships with phantom figures and personalities. It is really astonishing when people just manufacture stories, give them legs and let them fly when they know the stories are absolutely false,” she had said.

“It is perfectly legitimate for men to have designs and desires on stars. I was recently voted by the public as Nollywood’s Sexiest Actress. So it comes with the territory that men would want to date me. The question then becomes: do you fall prey to every man that comes your way? The answer is absolutely “no”. I was raised well by my parents and I have always been a one-man lady. All the sexual shenanigans that the media have associated me with are all false. The problem with our journalists is that if they saw you at a coffee shop with a man – just any man – even if that man is your cousin or brother, they will automatically assume that that is your new lover, and without asking questions, will rush to publish that you were seen at a coffee shop with a new lover.

“I have lost count of the number of such innocent outings with family members, friends that the media misconstrued that I was dating. What the media failed to understand was that I had not allowed stardom and celebrity to becloud my values. What they did not realize was that I wanted to be married, and start a family, and that the notion that I was some kind of a sexually crazed hormone raging young woman, was totally false and a bad reading of who I am. “Did I have friends in the past? Of course, just like any other young and single woman out there, I had friends. Did that make me an out-of control sexual goddess? Absolutely not! It has been very painful for me each time I read all the stories written about me, stuffs that are patently false. I have, however, come to accept it as part of the price you pay for stardom. I just wished they could do a little investigation before rushing to publish.

“One story that pained me a lot is the notion that I snatched Philips from his ex-wife – Ruth Okoro – while she was recuperating from cancer treatment. Nothing could be further from the truth. The ex-wife said I was callous and mean-spirited to have done so. Initially, I had wanted to ignore what she had said about me. But I would like to use this medium to state that I did not take Philips from Ruth Okoro.

For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved that are either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright falsehood. In this instance, I reference a recent story ran by a major newspaper concerning my successor and me. There is no doubt political charlatans and enemies are at work fueling unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship.

My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development. Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn’t the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe.  We often debate, agree or  disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State, we are on the same page.

The current situation and issues around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being overblown. What we have done is ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any elective position. Such a disposition should not translate into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is being peddled. Conflicts and disagreements is part of every political process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in-house and not on the pages of newspaper is a tradition in Lagos. We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-serving stories aimed at destabilizing the party and its leadership.

The media must be weary of accepting or publishing stories that seek to pursue a narrow political agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform for proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such that can help our country tackle the current security problem, create jobs. While we appreciate, recognize and respect the right of every media house to publish any story, it is important not to be part of the feeding frenzy and not to mislead the unsuspecting public. At my age and with my level of political experience, I am expected to seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and find a common ground where disagreements exist. That is what I have dedicated myself to in the larger interest of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what Governor Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what Lagos state deserves as Nigeria’s pacesetter in terms of democracy and development.

Jailbreak in Minna, 270 inmates freed, weapons stolen

Unknown gunmen stormed Medium Prison yard in Minna, Niger state around 4:30 this evening. They broke into the prison cells and set free about 270 inmates.

According to reports, the gunmen over powered the Prison officials and then broke into the prison's armory where they stole some weapons and bullet proof vests. This will be the second jail break in Nigeria in the last one week. One happened in Ekiti state on Monday December 1st.

Swiss photographer held hostage by Islamist extremists escape by cutting captor's throat

A Swiss wildlife photographer who was held hostage by Islamic extremists for more than two years has dramatically escaped to his freedom by cutting his captor's throat with a machete.

According to Mailonline, hostage Lorenzo Vinciguerra bravely fled from his kidnappers during a clash between insurgents and governments troops in the southern Philippines.

The 49-year-old and Dutch photographer Ewold Horn had been captured in February 2012 by rebels of the Aby Sayyaf group while on a bird-watching trip in Tawi-Tawi province.

Today, a Philippine officer revealed how, as gunfire broke out between the two sides in the remote jungle where he was kept, the photographer began wrestling with his guard to grab the machete. Despite being wounded on his left cheek during the attack, Mr Vinciguerra finally prised the machete from the guard's hand and managed to slit his neck.He added that there was no word on Horn's whereabouts.

Ekiti Bank Robbery- Police DCO was killed after failing to fail to robbers bullets

Mr. David Onu Itumah, 62, was the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of the Ikere-Ekiti divi­sional police station that was attacked by a gang of daredevil armed robbers who killed two police officers and three other civilians, including a 25-year-old female corps member, the late Miss Uguwoke Oyinyechi Edith that fateful day, November 25.

According to the Sun, The Ebonyi State-born Itumah, was one of the unfortunate police officers killed by the rampaging robbers when they simultaneously attacked the po­lice station and a new generation bank in Ikere Ekiti.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers went into Itumah’s office as if they had planned to make him their target.

“He didn’t fall to the robbers’ bullets. They shot him but that didn’t work on him. He didn’t have his rifle when they stormed his office, he ran into a corner of his office and locked himself in so that he could have enough time to prepare for them, but the robbers were too many for him, over five of them must have broken into his office to grab him.  They lifted his feet off the ground and shot him. That was when the bullet penetrated into his body and finished him”.

“The man was ill-fated. He just had three months to retire from the police, it was after they finished him and succeeded in sending off every other officer that they went for the police armoury in the office and emptied it”, the eyewitness said.  

Another, who also craved anonymity, spoke about the female police sergeant that was killed while she was making effort to scale the fence of the police command. He said: “The female police officer that was killed was popularly known as Iya Joel by everyone in this area. We know her as a very nice woman, very friendly and good to all.

” Those who murdered poor Itumah didn’t know that they have tampered with the lives of seven of his children, five girls and two boys, four of whom are already in institutions of higher learning while the younger two are in secondary school. The deceased was solely shouldering the responsibility of these children, including their mum, a petty trader.

Narrating the reports he got about the rob­bery incident, the CP’s spokesman, ASP Vic­tor Babayemi, said:  “I can confirm that there was a simultaneous attack on the police sta­tion and the bank office by a group of armed robbers numbering between 35 and 40, ac­cording to eyewitnesses. It was a spontane­ous attack and our men responded and there was gun exchange, some of the robbers were fatally shot regrettably and unfortunately, we lost two of our men, a female sergeant and an officer whose identities we don’t want to disclose now because we haven’t formally informed their families.

“The two police personnel didn’t die im­mediately, they were rushed to the hospital but they died in the hospital. Also, a female corps member who was using the ATM in the bank was also shot dead. Our armoury was not attacked, it is intact.

“Although, the robbers later escaped into the bush, some of them were fatally shot and adequate personnel have been mobilized to be on their trail as we speak.

Unknown Armed Robbers have chased Oritsefemi’s Range Rover SUV to crash early Saturday morning, 6th December 2014on Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

“The incident happened we were going to finish up a meeting my traveling arrangement today with Big Brother Africa’s officials in order to perform at the grand finale of the event in South Africa on Sunday 7th. Yusuf ‘Danku’ Adepitan who was driving the Ranger noticed unknown gun men were chasing me-Oritsefemi- behind, on approaching Funsho Willams Road, Barrack Bus Stop, Surulere, and the suspected gunmen approached the driver. They ordered him to stop. Pointing guns at him, but Danku refused to stop. He accelerated trying to escape. While he was struggling with the robbers, a truck conveying loads of Cement hit the vehicle accidentally. Range driver’s side was smashed. Danku lost control. The truck hit him by the chest through the driver’s side. The airbag came out immediately”, Oritsefemi revealed the accident.

  “I was at the back the back seat with my brother. I quickly cried for help before Good Samaritan rushed out from unknown area in Surulere to rescue Danku who had already been in coma. He could neither talk nor see anyone at the point”. He has been hospitalized at a name withheld hospital in Ikeja receiving treatment.

“I thank God for my life and manager. No life was lost. My fans should pray for me”, Oritsefemi Concluded.

Another Unarmed black man shot dead in US.

A Phoenix  white police officer on Tuesday December 2nd, shot dead Rumain Brisbon, a 34 year old father of four, after he mistook Brisbon's pill bottle for a gun. 

According to Phoenix police report, Brisbon was suspected of peddling hard drugs. Following a tip-off, he was approached by a 30 year old white police cop to asked him to come down from his Cadillac SUV for a search which he agreed to.
According to the police version of events, while coming down from his vehicle, Brisbon was said to have 'appeared to be removing something' from the rear seat. The officer instructed him to show his hands but instead Brisbon placed one or both hands in his waistband area before fleeing to a nearby apartment building.    The police officer pursued him and they claim he refused the officers command asking him to get on the ground. Then they claim he began insulting the officer who he struggled with after he was caught. The police report said “During the struggle Brisbon put his left hand in his pocket and the officer grabbed on to the suspect’s hand, while repeatedly telling the suspect to keep his hand in his pocket,”. The two men tumbled inside an apartment after a door was opened.

 The officer believed he felt the handle of a gun while holding the suspects hand in his pocket”, the statement continued. Having become “unable to maintain his grip on the suspect’s hand”, the officer shot Brisbon twice in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A search of Brisbon’s pocket showed the item was a vial containing several oxycodone tablets. Police report said a handgun and a jar apparently containing marijuana was found inside Brisbon’s SUV. Brisbon was found to have a criminal record including a burglary conviction.

The officer, who has worked for the department for seven years, was not harmed. Police said he was in the area to investigate an alleged burglary but was told by two people that men inside a black Cadillac SUV were engaged in a drug deal.

  Brandon Dickerson, a friend of Brisbon  who was driving with him at the time of the incident told the Arizona Republic that Brisbon was at the apartment building where he was shot dead to deliver fast food to his children.

The newspaper reported that “on Wednesday evening, strewn french fries still littered the front porch”. Marci Kratter, an attorney for Brisbon’s family, told the newspaper they were considering a wrongful death lawsuit.
“It was a senseless tragedy,” she said. “He was unarmed and not a threat to anyone. We intend to pursue this to the full extent of the law."

President GEJ sacks prison's Comptroller General, appoints a new one

President Jonathan has sacked the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Prison Service, Alhaji Aminu Suleh and replaced him with  Dr Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu .

Mr Saleh's sack comes five days after the Ekiti state jail break in which over 400 inmates escaped. About 200 inmates were later re-captured. Mr Ekpendu who was until his appointment a deputy Comptroller General (Administration) is from Imo state.

Boko Haram will not stop if Jonathan is re-elected

Governor of Imo state and a presidential aspirant of the APC, Chief Rochas Okorocha, says that the reign of terror by Boko Haram members in Nigeria will not stop if President Jonathan is re-elected President in 2015.

Nigeria military seizes arms-laden Rusian plane bound for Chad

Premium Times is reporting that a Nigeria military has intercepted a Russian plane loaded with large amount of arms and ammunition, bound for neighbouring Chad.

A security source told PT that the plane was seized early today Saturday Dec. 6th at the Aminu Kano International Airport. The aircraft, which was headed for N’djamena, the capital of Chad, landed in Kano at about 2a.m. Nigerian time, the source said. All crew members of the aircraft have been detained by Nigerian forces.

Fake soldier sentence to 7years imprisonment for N1.5m job scam

Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Benin, Edo State toady convicted and sentenced one Emmanuel Sunday (alias Umoh Sunday Iyang, Iyang Samuel Chukwudi) to seven and half years imprisonment without an option of fine for obtaining money under false pretense.

The convict was arraigned by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 19, 2014 on an 8-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence. He pleaded not guilty to the count charge. After diligent prosecution, Justice Ajoku found him guilty on the 5-count amended charge and sentenced him to thirty months imprisonment each of the counts. The court also ordered that the convict forfeit his two (2) phones to the Federal Government.

The journey to prison for Emmanuel started when he was arrested in Benin on August 13, 2013 by the Nigerian Army, 4 Brigade/sector 1, Operation Pulo Shield, for posing as an Army Captain to defraud one Igue Endurance of the sum of N1, 545,000.00 (One Million Five Hundred And Forty- Five Thousand Naira) in the pretext that the said amount be used to facilitate her recruitment into the Nigerian Army. One of the charges read,
“That you Emmanuel Sunday ( also known as Umoh Sunday, Inyang Samuel Chukwudi) on or about May, 2013, at Benin within the Jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud did represent yourself to be a captain with the Nigerian Army and obtained the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira only(300,000.00) from one Igue Endurance, which said money you used part of it and paid the sum of Eighty Thousand Naira into your Diamond bank plc, account 0001857059, under the pretence that the said sum would be used to get Igue Endurance recruited into Nigerian Army, a pretext which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1(1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act”.

How Robbers exposed Police Inspector's illegal duty in Ondo

For leading an illegal duty, a Police Inspector and three other police officers are in soup in Ondo state Police Command.

The four police officers with two drivers and a cash officer are being detained and quizzed for embarking on an illegal duty by escorting a bullion van conveying an unspecified amount belonging to a new generation bank, penultimate Thursday, from one of its branches in Ondo town to its headquarters in Akure, when the hoodlums struck. The two drivers drove the bullion van and the escort vehicle while the cash officer is a staff of one the bank.

Vanguard gathered that the suspects may have been embarking on such illegal duties before now to make brisk business until nemesis caught up with them. It was also gathered that the four policemen who embarked on the illegal duty without official approval from the operation unit of the command, are currently being detained and interrogated for conspiracy in the robbery incident which took place at Elemoso village, Ondo East Local Government area of the state. A top Police source said  “On a good day, whenever banks want to convey money from one town to the other, they usually write to the operations unit of the state police command and eight policemen would be approved for them.

” However, only four policemen escorted the bullion van last Thursday, which fuelled suspicion of conspiracy. The State Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke confirmed that the command smells conspiracy as the policemen who escorted the van were on illegal duty.

Eke told Vanguard that the suspects failed to follow the due process before escorting bank bullion van, even as it was said that they did not fire a single bullet when the robbers waylaid them. It was learnt that the policemen fled the scene of the robbery immediately the robbers double-crossed them and fired volleys of gunshots. Their desperate bid to make quick money for the weekend that fateful day may not only cause them their jobs but send them behind bars. It was gathered that the mobile policemen deployed to the scene of the robbery fished out the suspects while combing the bushes in the village where they fled to. The bullion van and the escort vehicle were riddled with bullets, while their tyres were deflated by gun shots fired by the robbers.

Speaking to Vanguard, some of the villagers said the robbers were trailing the bullion van from Ondo town until it got to the village where some speed breakers were made before attacking the van and the escort police vehicle.

According to one of the villagers who pleaded anonymity, “a red car pretended to overtake the bullion van while it slowed down because of the speed breakers, only to double cross it and fired volleys of gun shot into the air and on the two vehicles.”
