If you are up to date with the current health news in the country then you'll agree with me that there has been a surge in the rate of kidney related diseases amongst our youths..Definitely we need to be worried and enlighten ourselves...
Kidney are a pair of bean shaped organ located at the back of the abdomen(erroneously called stomach)....some of the fucntions of the kidney are to filter the blood several times a day,regulate d electrolyte,remove waste from the body,control body fluid,e.t.c..
Several conditions can affect the normal functioning of the kidney leading to kidney diseases such as' polycystic kidney disease,pyelonephritis,glomerulonephritis,kidney stones,kidney failure,e.t.c.
Let's get to business;
Kidney failure also known as renal failure or renal insufficiency, is a medical condition of impaired kidney functionin which the kidneys fail to adequately filter metabolic wastes from the blood.The two main forms are acute kidney injury, which is often reversible with adequate treatment, and chronic kidney disease, which is often not reversible. In both cases, there is usually an underlying cause.
Kidney failure is mainly determined by a decrease in glomerular filtration rate, which is the rate at which blood is filtered in the glomeruli of the kidney. The condition is detected by a decrease in or absence of urine production or determination of waste products ( creatinine or urea) in the blood. Depending on the cause, hematuria(blood loss in the urine) and proteinuria(protein loss in the urine) may be noted.
In kidney failure, there may be problems with increased fluid in the body (leading to swelling), increased acid levels, raised levels of potassium, decreased levels of calcium, increased levels of phosphate, and in later stages anemia. Bone health may also be affected. Long-term kidney problems are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease......
Major causes of kidney failure in dis country
1.Drug abuse/overdose especially antibiotics
2.Drug abuse again ooo of analgesics and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs(nsaids).e.g paracetamol,ibuprofen,diclofenac.....e.t.c
3.Genetic predisposition;papa get mama get dat alone is a risk factor as so many other medical conditions.
4.High blood pressure!!!!! I had to yell dis 1 out so many youths don't even knw wat dis is,pls nd pls find out...for those who knw bou d renin.angiontensin complex.
5.Diet(alcohol inclusive)....reduce am to 1bottle if na 6 u dey take b4..lols.
Some symptoms of kidney failure include;frequent urination,swelling on hands,feets,ankles or face,fatigue ,skin itching,nausea and vomitting dizziness.......pls health is wealth endeavour to check ur blood pressure and sugar level regularly,avoid self medication,exercise and above all pray....
