UPDATE: Man left with broken leg after gang train attack


The attackers were chanting and singing before the attack on the Manchester to Stoke train near Macclesfield


Two people were left with serious injuries after being attacked by a gang on a train.
The group of offenders were said to be chanting and singing before the incident which left a man with a broken jaw and another with a broken leg.

The victims got off the train at Macclesfield train station following the attack on the Manchester Piccadilly to Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday at around 7.20pm.
Police said they could not confirm whether the assailants were football fans. Three victims were taken to hospital, including a man who had been hit by flying glass. They have since been discharged.
A 16-year-old girl was also reported to have been hit by flying glass but was not taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We are investigating after four people were injured following a disturbance on the 6.46pm Manchester Piccadilly to Stoke train on Saturday, February 27. We are reviewing CCTV from the service and speaking to witnesses.” A spokesperson from Northern Rail said two trains had to be cancelled as a result of the incident.
