The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefele, who assumed office at the apex bank, Abuja, on Tuesday, has consulted with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Wednesday.
While formally resuming for duties during a brief handover ceremony by the Acting CBN Governor, Mrs Sarah Alade, Emefiele had refrained himself from making any speech saying that he reserved it till Thursday(today), when he would unfold his agenda for the bank and the banking sector. Mrs Alade took over from the suspended CBN.Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi over gross financial recklessness identified by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
Emefiele was appointed in February for screening by the National Assembly and was billed to take over from Sanusi in June, when his tenure ought to have expired. Prior to his appointment, he was the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. While at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday and though it was a closed door meeting with President Jonathan, but it may not be far from briefing the President about his agenda to be unfolded today, Thursday. The President could have also warned of the need to adhere strictly to the professional ethics expected of helmsman of a nations apex bank in order to avoid controversies sssociated with his predecessor.
When approached by State House correspondents for comments, he declined saying "till tomorrow (today)".
